Sighting in

I'm new to bow hunting. I have a 4 pin sight on my bow and I was wondering what do most people set them at. I know I need to practice to get comfortable shooting it a certain ranges, but what is the basic setup. Thanks!!

I sight mine in at 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards with a 4 pin sight.

20, 30, 40, 50 is pretty standard.

It might change with your setup though. I currently use my top pin for 0-30 then 40, 50, 60. Most go with 20, 30, 40, 50 though.

get rid of one pin, anyone thats shooting at a deer with bow at 50 yards is alot braver than I am.

Maybe he uses it to practice? Maybe he lives out west were shots tend to be longer?

I have 3 pins in my sight, and have had as many as five. I only use one to hunt with though.

The only down side is more pins get's more confusing for some people.

RE: Sighting in

I hunt with a 3 pin sight and I am converting it to a 4 or 5 pin sight. Why?

1. 3D shoots often have targets longer than 40 yds. ( ex.20, 30, 40 pin)
2. If I make a poor shot and the deer is standing broadside at 50...I want to be able to take a follow up shot.
3. Practicing at longer distances will improve your shorter distance shots.

Don't get rid of that fourth pin.

I use a 4 pin G5 Optix ME. The first 3 pins are 20,30,40. The 4th pin can be adjusted for elevation from 50 to 80+ yds right now using a thumb wheel that clicks into positions.

This pin is strickly for practice at least for this year.I haven't gone past 53 yds due to still trying to figure out the set-up I like for rest and arrows. Practicing and long ranges makes 20 yds look like 10 ft.

Thanks for all the info guys!! This is a great place to get information!! I hunt in areas where sometimes all I have is shooting lanes, but then I have a few spots where my rifle shots are about 200 to 300 yards.
