Removing Served-in Cord From Cable
Can someone let me know if I can remove the pull cord from mycable without any special tools. It is served in for my TT Shakey Hunter and I am changing rests. I appreciate any help/instructions you guys have to offer.
Thanks, LT |

A very sharp razor, a good light, a steady hand and a lot of patience? [8D]

That's how I remove other servings I've done.... I might suggest putting it in a press to take some tension off the whole thing; it might make it a bit easier to work on, as well as protect you if you happen to cut something you shouldn't.

I actually find that servings are easier to cut with the system under tension than when pressed. Things tend to shift or move on you less when they're under tension. Having a sharp cutting instrument is key. If you can press it, then you might be able to remove the control cable without cutting the serving, just depends on how it was served in. If the control cable is back knotted then you'll have to press the bow in order to get the knot through the cable anyway...

Not saying this is the best way, but I have been able to clip the burnt end that has gone through the cable with a pair of needle nose plier (the wire cutting edge), and then just pull the cord through once the balled up burnt end has been removed, this works when I have enough room to get the pliers on the cord. Generally the guy I get to serve in the cord uses a snug, but not overly tight serving that is slight raised and is pretty easily removed with a sharp knife and a steady hand, but I always check and double check to make sure I haven't nicked a strand, so far so good.:D
Probably not the best method, but it was worked so far. |

you can use a pair of toe nail clippers to cut off the balled up end of the cord then it will pull right out then you can then take the clippers to cut the serving thread and then just simply unwind the serving.

I want to cry just thinking about doing that.
Toe nail clippers sounds good. |
