How do you add total arrow weight?
 

How do you add the total weight for your arrow? I notice some calculations you can do you have to include arrow weight. I shoot Beman Max-4 arrows which at 10.6 GPI and shoot 100 grain tips. With it are 2" blazers. What else do i add to get a total arrow weight? Thanks for the help.

Total arrow weight is just that.....You must include the insert, nock, nock adaptor (if applicable) uni bushing (if applicable) vanes, wraps, point, anything and everything included on your arrow.

Take your GPI, multiply by the length of the shaft and add up everything else......You'll bet pretty close. Nocks, inserts and vanes all vary in weight by quite a bit.......But if you know how much they weigh, it's just simple math after that.

The best way to do it is get a grain scale, balance or digital. You can add up the weights of arrow and components all you want. Unless you use a scale on each arrow, you never really know.

Let me take Mobow's example with my own Beman ICS Hunter 340 to give you a better example:

Grains per inch: 9.3
length of shaft (NOT total cut length): 28.75 (9.3 x 28.75 = 267.3 grains)
Beman ICS insert: 21 grains
Beman/Easton 4" standard plasticfletchings: (8 grainsx 3) 24 grains
Beman Super Nock: 12 grains
Field tip: 100 grains.

267.3 + 21 + 24 + 12 + 100 = 424.3 total grains

ButchA, put that on a grain scale and tell me if you get 424.3, better yet weigh the arrow and all the components seperately and let me know how far off the advertised weight on each is.

Best way is to get your total arrow weight is to weigh them, for sure. But, if you don't have a good grain scale handy and the pro shop is a pain to get to, there's another option. Go over to www.bowjackson.com and use the arrow weight calculator he's got. It won't be exact, but it'll get you in the ballpark.

Jackson'sgot a lot of other nifty calculators and stuff over there. His site should be in every bowhunter's list of favorites.

SOME GOOD ADVICE HERE . I've used BowJackson and it work's pretty good ,just knowing the weight of your fletching's ,nock's and etc ,etc by using a grain scale work's great as well, really is a piece od equipment every bowhunter should have .

Calculations will get you very close but for exact figures, a grain scale is needed.

What most don't add is a grain or so for insert glue, depending on how anal you are..lol
