RE: compound bow for beginner?

RE: compound bow for beginner?
i went to a shop but the can't recommend me much and the one they have are $350 and above which is way above my budget =(
i would like to see if ebay has some that u guys could recommend. when a bow is left handed does it mean that i hold it with the left hand and draw it with the right hand or is it the other way around? thanks a lot |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
I bought a Parker Buck Hunter XP for my wife its a 40-50lb and draw is adjustable from 26-31in for around $380. They also had higher lb ones there at Cabela's and there is a 13yrd range next to archery you can try it out before you buy. You can also hit the bargin cave they have some bows that need a string put on them for around $200-300.

RE: compound bow for beginner?
Kouki,
A right handed bow is one that you hold in your left and draw with your right. I'm a beginner also, but I didn't start with a beginner bow. I've been shooting my Drenalin for about 4 weeks now. More than one person will tell you to try as many bows as you can and get the one that you think fits you the best. I seriously considered starting with a crossbow, but I wanted to be sure that I'd be able to hunt legally if the laws change, plus I just wanted a little more challenge. Good luck! |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
these things aren't cheap huh , so nothing in the $100-$150 range?
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
You could find a decent used bow for that amount. Like I said, I'm new. From what I read on these forums, a lot of these folks buy bows quite often. Maybe one of them has a decent used bow for sale.
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
thanks for the options guys , so i cant really do an online shopping can i ..... damn the one at the stores are at least $250 and above and no way i can afford that. a crossbow will be cheaper =\
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
As new as you are,you really wouldn't know what would fit you. That is the MOST important thing with a bow.Getting one that fits.
You need to visit a bow shop and talk to them about getting a used bow that FITS.They might have one in stock or give them your name. They have customers all the time that are looking to get rid of their old bow. They should take it on trade or let them get in touch with you directly. Be patient, deal with a reputable dealer and you should be able to get one in your price range and one that fits. |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
Kouki,
One idea.... if you see something that looks good on ebay, to to a shop and shoot one of them. If you like it, then bid on ebay. Just a thought. |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
I started on and still shoot a Bowtech Equalizer. It is my love and I find it very difficult to shoot anything else. I never have problems with it and it is smooth and as quiet as can be. I realize a woman's opinion ofa bow will differ from a man's, but alot of the guys I shoot with at the bow shop love the Equalizer. I think it is definitely worth checking out.

RE: compound bow for beginner?
alright thanks guys i will just go to the sports shop again.
appreciate it |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
I wish I knew this a couple of days ago, I sold a PSE fire flite express, with new sights, martin quiver, four carbon arrow and a release for $100 it was ready to shoot.

RE: compound bow for beginner?
Find out what drawlength you need, and what may fit you okay. Get an idea of what draw-weight you are comfortable with, and start looking here: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=100 The ArcheryTalk Classifieds are probably the best on the net for bows. There are many excellent deals to be found there.
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
I didn't know they had classifieds here. I'll have to check this out myself.
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
They have classified adds here but that link isn't here.

RE: compound bow for beginner?
but the main question is for a beginner is it better with a compound or a recurve , i went to the store jus tnow. the shop owner just simply told me get a recurve as it is just more fun than a compound bow. is it true? cause he said compound bow need to have some technique to shoot it etc compared to a re-curve? can a recurve bow be fitted with those gadget sights that is used on a compound bow?
p/: why is there so many long sticks on those used in championship? thanks a lot |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
those long sticks are stablizers. helps them hold steadier i believe... as far as a recurve being easier. i got to disagree... when i started with a compound i took a pie plate anhay bale.. shot till i could hit the pie plate everytime... prolly took a whole hour maybe. then jsu took off from there... ive shoot a few recurves an i think its tuff. ive never heard of a beginner startin with a recurve. my first bow i got waswas 2 inches to long slap my arm everytime i shot.. hardly anyletoff but i loved to hunt an shoot it anyway. learned to make it work till i was good enough an had enough $$$ to step up a lil.. still not at the top of the line by no means. but once ya start jus cant stop!

RE: compound bow for beginner?
hmmm so are there such thing as cheap compound bow for beginners?
and just to compare is a compound bow more accurate than a 150lb horton rifle crossbow? |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
Shop around until you find something you can afford. Just make sure that the draw length and pull weight fits you. I bought my Browning several years ago for half price. Somebody bought it, didn't like it and returned it so they sold it to me for half the new price.
Don't worry too much about finding something that "feels right." If you're new to the sport, you can get used to any brand of bow. You can spend a huge bag of money on equipment, but keep in mind that the purpose of the bow is merely to propel the arrow to the target. It doesn't have to be the best bow on the market to do that. After you develop some skill and some experience and have had a chance to save up some coin you can get your dream bow. But an old used bow is better than no bow at all. |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
thanks a lot guys , just wondering the accuracy achieved by a crossbow and a compound bow and which one can shoots faster.
apprecaite it |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
and i've been looking a lot into pse bows these days , is there one that is a good model? and have the highest adjustability?
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
i think for a a newbie you could shoot better groups with a crossbow . kinda like shootin a rifle.. scopes an all... but i find compound more fun. speed wise.. anymore top of the line compound are capable of shootin same speeds if there set up for it. but crossbows have a lil speed advantage in the speed dept.
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
any good brands to go with? i really dont know what is considered a good deal with so many varying model and brand for my budget
MdDave: when u said about speed , do you mean speed of the arrows or re-loading speed? what i meant was re-loading speed for a compound bow and a cross bow. sorry if you misunderstood me. =) |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
uumm never really worried about how fast u casn reload. jus make the first shot count...lol j/k ummm id say compound. . a crossbow you have to put down put ur foot in it pull it back nock an arrowfind the deer through the scope again... compound u nock an arrow attach ur release pullback an fire. if u dont mind me askin how old are you? if you a younger fella i would almost hafta go with a compound.. kinda depends on where u live 2.. here in md we can bow hunt for 5 months i think... crossbow hunt for 2 weeks or something like that. inless your handicaped then its all bowseason

RE: compound bow for beginner?
I may out of line a bit jumping into this thread, but as a heads up to you guys this "Kouki_S14" was just evicted from the crossbow section, he is looking for a something to shoot a person with. I copied this text of his:
"i'm from KS really , but the main thing im looking to get one of this cause there has been 2 times i almost caught the thief trying to steal my car but being in KS , we cannot injure them with firearms , hence i'm looking for a less deadly force projectile and saw that even airguns are not what i want" I would be careful as to how much guidance you give him! Shoot straight and stay safe. RE: compound bow for beginner?
Thanks for the info. Hope he realizes that it's just as illegal to shoot someone with a bow as it is a gun.
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
hahaha im thinkin he actually wants to bow hunt...... ummmm a good baseball bat an bear spray .... some of that stuff shoots 20 feet.... besides id rather beat the hell out of someone for a while the shoot em... but if i had to "disarm some1" ive always thought bout a foot shoot.. boy wouldnt that hurt!!!!!
|
RE: compound bow for beginner?
thanks MdDave , at least someone in here understands better than those idiots in the crossbow section.
Anyhow i'd bump up my budget to $200 for a compound bow. do you know if there is any good brand or model to go with on this range in terms of quality of the bow and upgradability to put add-ons? and for all those fella who thinks otherwise just mind your own business. i'm taking this as a hobby target practise. |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
From this:
ORIGINAL: Kouki_S14 "i'm from KS really , but the main thing im looking to get one of this cause there has been 2 times i almost caught the thief trying to steal my car but being in KS , we cannot injure them with firearms , hence i'm looking for a less deadly force projectile and saw that even airguns are not what i want" To this, in 24 hours? ORIGINAL: Kouki_S14 and for all those fella who thinks otherwise just mind your own business. i'm taking this as a hobby target practise. This isn't about compound bows, crossbows or guns, it is about assisting a person in a crime. Aiding and abetting: A criminal charge of aiding and abetting or accessory can usually be brought against anyone who helps in the commission of a crime, though legal distinctions vary by state. A person charged with aiding and abetting or accessory is usually not present when the crime itself is committed, but he or she has knowledge of the crime before or after the fact, and may assist in its commission through advice, actions, or financial support. Depending on the degree of involvement, the offender's participation in the crime may rise to the level of conspiracy. You also mentioned you were in this country on a visa, the ice below you is thin, I suggest you take it elsewhere. You may notice your original thread is gone, care to guess where it is now? It would probably be a good idea to stop and think about your activity here in the past few days, anonymity is no longer an option. |
RE: compound bow for beginner?
yea whatever Pydpiper, i am fairly sure what i will be using my bow for now which is for target practise hobby. I'm not a young kid just rambling about. I'm a certified engineer if that means anything to you guys at all . well i'd take it to some other forum since this one is less than helpful than to label people as criminal.
cheers |
