Arrow Recommendation
 

I just got my 14 year old son a new Fred Bear Element. With the poundage turned down to a tad under 50 lbs, he is able to pull it OK at a draw length of 29". Now I need some arrows. Generally speaking, am I better off to go with the light carbon arrows (7.9 gpi) and 100 grain heads, or the slightly heavier A/C shafts and the 75 grain heads? I'm leaning toward the light shafts and the heavier heads; but I shot a few of my buddies' Eastman A/C arrows with 75 gr field points and they produced a very good group - despite the spine being considerably too heavy for this pull weight.

The weight will be close to the same on either one. You are talking about a light arrow w/ heavy point, and a heavy arrow w/ light point.....There won't be much difference in the weight.

Heavier will of course produce more momentum, and lighter will of course produce more speed. Personally, I would go w/ the light carbon and a 100 gr. point. That's just me though....

That was my inclination as well. The weight forward thing. But it is undeniable how well those Easton A/C Super Slim shafts shoot with the light points. I'm also thinking about the switch to broadheads and somewhat limited availability of 75 gr. heads. THx. Roskoe

The ones with better foc and spine will yield better penetration when that is a question mark,under 50#'s,that is a question.


I hunt at 58#'s at 28 1/2" draw ,along with expandables and penetrate the ground quite well using ACC 3-39's. with 10 1/2 -11% foc.This arrow is just SLIGHTLY stiff on my program and is a great arrow for me.

I am able to get a perfect tune,which is paramount on low energy setups.

Well, I went to the new archery shop in Canon City (about 30 miles west of here) this morning and got a dozen of the EastonST Excel500's. They have a nice 25 yd. indoor range right there in the building. With Blazer vanes and 100 gr. field tips, these arrows weigh right at 350 grains - andshot 1" to 1.5" groups :). Sure hope the broadheads shoot as well.

since you already got arrows ill just say.........a 14 year old with a 29 inch draw...holy cow! hes going to need custom bows with 32+ inch draws if he keeps growin! lol. thats impressive. lol

Hoping this growth spurt levels out soon. We went from a little boy, 18 months ago, to a Men's Large jacket, a 29" draw and a size 12 shoe. Only 150 lbs so far though. Grocery bill is staggering.
