How tight should a nock be?
My arrow nocks used to be somewhat snug, but I had them replaced this year when I re-fletched my arrows and the guy at the proshop said he felt that they were too tight, so we replaced them with new ones (the new ones are yellow Gold Tips, just in case theycome in different sizes).
I've recentlynoticed that thenock can easily slide up and down the sting, but since I use astring loop, it keeps it somewhat contained. Shouldn'tmy nock hold the arrow firmly in place? Common sense tellsme that it should, but I just thought I'd ask. |
RE: How tight should a nock be?
The nock should be tight enough that if you were to hang the arrow off the back of the string it would not fall off, however, it should not be so tight that you can't tap it with your finger and have it fall off.

RE: How tight should a nock be?
When the arrow is nocked, I have a ton of movement. The only thing that really holds the nock is the string loop and the "pinch" that is created when I draw.
WH- what do you mean when you say to hang the arrow off the back of the string? And when I tap, should I tap the nock itself? I need more details. Please clarify. |
RE: How tight should a nock be?
A picture is often worth a thousand words;
Yes, you should tap the nock itself. |
RE: How tight should a nock be?
That helps, thanks. I can't quite tap it off the string but I can knock it off the string with my finger. In any case, to my surprise I guess it's normal to have some loose play on the string.
Thanks for your help WH. |
