Bow Weight
OK...I'm really close to deciding on a new bow (going from recurve to compound). Looks like either a Diamond Liberty or a Vectrix (not all provide a 25" draw). Have shot many. Thanks for everbody's help.

RE: Bow Weight
Um, you're welcome?
Good luck, both excellent choices. |
RE: Bow Weight
I honestly can't see how a Diamond could be in the mix against the Vectrix but best of luck with your new rig. I can't speak for the Diamond but that Vectrix is simply awesome! I honestly have never seen so many people rave about any Hoyt in the past. It looks like the bow I'll be shooting this Turkey season as well. Good luck and good shootin'

RE: Bow Weight
I also meant to ask a question regarding draw weight. I will be hunting turkey and deer. I want to shoot around 52-53#. Is it best to order a bow with 50-60# limbs or one with 40-50# limbs? Can I crank up a40-50# bow a bit over 50#? Will it over tax the bow?
I guess that's more than one question. Thanks |
RE: Bow Weight
Some bows will max out a little over their intended draw weights. If you want a bow that draws 52-53 lbs, I would just buy the 40-50 lber and max it out and not worry about it.Those couple pounds won't make a huge difference.

RE: Bow Weight
In my experience, when the strings and cables are the right length, the Hoyts hit their intended weight and stop.Sometimes with factory rigging you MIGHT get an extra pound or two but I really haven't seen it much with my Hoyts.
I believe with that low of a poundage,I would get the 50-60, especially if you think you will ever want toincrease the poundage, you don't want to lock yourself down. |

RE: Bow Weight
I have shot them both and they are about the same. I like both of them and they are really nice.

RE: Bow Weight
old/new, have u tried the Black Ice? it's a nice bow also. I agree w/everyone else, go w/the higher poundage, it's good to be able to go up in #.

RE: Bow Weight
I have shot the Black Ice. Shoots beautifully. If you look at the manufactures specs though it does not come in a 25" draw length. Iread a lot on this forum about being "overbowed" both in weight and especially draw length. I've always known thata significant number of archers/bowhunters shoot bows with too long a draw. I will not make that mistake.
It appears many bows come in 26" and up. Some start out even longer. The Black Ice I believe comes in 25.5 and up. Other bows that come in at 25" that I have shot are: Diamond- Triumph Liberty (I liked the Liberty a lot) Hoyt- Vectrix (I liked that a lot also) Bowtec- Guardian (I liked that also) Parker- Don't recall the model (Nice but I like the above bows better) I appreciate everyone's input. I think I will take the predominant advice and order a bow with 50-60 lb limbs though. I was concerned about performance at the middle of the weight range or even under. But I would not want to be restricted to a maximum of 50#. Thanks |
RE: Bow Weight
Most bows shoot better maxed out then let down all the way. Also on some bows when you let the limbs out like that it changes draw length and brace height too. Just some thing to think about. I like to shoot at 62-63 lbs. My new Vectrix XL maxed out at 62 ¾. I got lucky.

RE: Bow Weight
old/new, let us know what u decide.

RE: Bow Weight
Another consideration would be hunting vs target shooting. In my winter leagues, I reduce draw weight for target shooting. In the summer and fall, I increase it for 3-d practice and hunting. Of course, I need two completely different sets of arrows to do this properly.

RE: Bow Weight
It's done...ordered a Diamond Liberty a couple of hous ago. It just seems to "fit" me.
25" 50-60# blank (no accessories) Now I need to check out a site, rest, quiver, peep, arrows & broadheads. And whatever else. Always ready for input. |
RE: Bow Weight
if you go with a 40-50 and max the limbs out, it will a) shoot better and b) still pull around 52-53lbs
oops too late. i figured if you shot both you would have went with the hoyt no doubt, but if the diamond felt better then great. |
RE: Bow Weight
I did shoot both. The archery shop guy even changed the draw length on both bows. Shot them both at the same weight too. Both shot and felt great. For some reason the Diamond Liberty felt "easier" to me. It just felt a touch nicer to draw. Both were quiet. I know the Hoyt is a popular bow on this forum and deservedly so. Believe me it wasn't the $100 difference. I just said to myself, "this is me" and bought the Diamond.

RE: Bow Weight
I owned a liberty in 04 when bowtech sold them with the freedom cam and they are as sweet of a bow as anything thats out right now. Extremely smooth. No speed demon, but a great feeling bow. If the diamond is the same then Id say its a great bow and a great deal too. The vectrix and the liberty to feel very similair.
