If they do, you'll want to go up to something along the lines of a 600-700grain arrow ;)

Why not 500 grains?

I am just joshing ya around, I am more than happy with my current, fps, KE, & slugs/fps momentum. If I don't get a pass through on the animals I am shooting, it is my fault, not the bows. And to be honest that is exactly what I wanted to accomplish with my current setup. Little to no guess work on range & penetration.

I am of the opinion that if you shoot @ inopportune times, i.e... while a deer is on edge, you will never hit your mark no matter the fps, our quietness of the bow.

Stealth Force,

Does the 400 grain arrow have a smaller diameter than the 600 grain arrow? If so, there is the reason it penetrates more. The smaller diameter arrow and point combo will obviously penetrate more. I have found that even skinny arrows (a/c/c and such) with a larger point will penetrate very well because the only friction with the target is the point. Another factor in penetration is the arrows finish.

If the arrows were exactly identical other than weight, then you have a point.

RE: How'd THAT happen?!?!?!

I have been at this archery game for a long time mid 70s.Have killed 70 big game animals with a bow and a ton of the smaller game.I have used longbows recurves and compounds. If a arrow flys strait and hits the target strait helps a lot with penatration. Slow heavy arrow have been killing game for hundreds of years if not thousands. But in the last 12 years archery has made its biggest advancments in speed and arrow materal(SP)with these and great broad heads penetration on game at bow range is not a problem if you bow is tuned properly(arrow flying strait)I have seen more penetration from arrows made of carbon and with broadheads like muzzy, T heads.Than with aluminum from compounds or recurves.A fast carbon arrow (250 fps to 300+)with a good sharp broadhead will kill any animal on earth as long as proper shot place ment is made. The most important thing is getting a arrow of your choice to the lungs and heart of the animal.Hope my ramblings have not bored to many I just love bows and bow hunting:)
