New Rest, kinda freaked out...
I was at Cabela's today and rummaging through the bargain cave. I stumbled across a basically brand new Qad Ultra Rest Pro LD. It was 60.00 so I figured what the heck, I always wanted to try one.
Now, I have to say, I've been using an APA Twister for the past two seasons and love it for the most part so changing rests has me kinda freaked out for some reason.:D Anyway, I got it mounted up this evening and set the timing per instructions. I didn't use the little cable clamp thing, I just served it to the down cable. Setup arrow height and windage and shot a few arrows through paper and powder tested. No contact and almost a perfect bullet hole in about 5 shots. So far, I kind of like this thing. Adjustments are easy to get to, seems very quiet and total containment. I'm going to the club tomorrow night to really start shooting it, but I am pretty confident in it thus far. Does anyone else get freaked out when changing rests? Sights, quivers, etc, no problem. But rests for some reason have me a lil jumpy:D |

They used to until I got my laser and levels... [8D]

I don't mind changing sights but when I think about changing rests it gives me the heeby jeebies like you for some reason. I can't see shooting anything different than my NAP dropaway. Maybe its the set-up and getting it back to shooting perfectly again but I do not like messing with my rest once my bow is tuned and shooting well.

Same here. When I change rests I think I will never get it like I want. Scared me to death when I change from the Schaffer to the Muzzy rest, but I wanted the Muzzy to hunt with.
You got a bargain for sure with that QAD LD for $60. |
RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
It's not so much putting on the new rest that I don't like, it's taking one off that is already well tuned and shooting well that I don't like to do.[&:]

ORIGINAL: Greg / MO They used to until I got my laser and levels... [8D] This might be the best thing it is suited for.Would be very easy to put the lazer on,mark an arrow with your old rest and then just adjust the rest untill the lazer hits the mark. Of course,I just use a $10.00 precision scale.(ruler) [8D] I don't get too freaked out about any of it anymore. |
RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
You can change pert near anything on a bow and not cause major problems.......EXCEPT the rest....Good golly miss molly I HATE changing rests.....Let the work begin. [:@]

Ha, here I thought I was the only nut in the tree. I only will mess with this sort of thing in the winter months. I still have the APA and won't get rid of that thing. Its kind of a pain to adjust, but when you eventually get it right, its a sweet hunting rest. I have just been intrigued by this QAD and wanted to see if I liked it.

RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
I get that way when swapping strings & cables. I measure everything 12 times, stand back and take one last good look at a well tuned bow and then proceed to dismantle, uncertain on how long it will take me to return to the state of tune where I started.
Then it's the whole, mark the cam and and keep looking for the danged thing to "settle in". New rest swap, I'll be doing that soon. |
RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
"no contact" I wish my qad had that capability .

RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
This is a new bow and I haven't tuned my APA on it yet, so that doesn't bother me too much. But, for some reason, just the anxiety of trying a new rest and potentially using it full time without knowing if it will hold up through a season gives me the heebie jeebies.
Does anyone have any experience with this particular rest? Pro's/Con's?A very reputable person on AT, Mike Carter, highly recommended them on Bowtechs. |
RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
well i get freaked out anytime that i have to change anything on my bow so now you know that you are not the only one.

One of the first things I do when getting a new bow shooting just right, is to make a jig that allows me to easily remove and replace the rest and start shooting bulleyes on the first shot.
It's simple and doesn't cost anything. I take a small block of wood and cut it into an "L" shape that rests against the riser and arrow shelf. I trim the wood to allow the arrow to rest perfectly in the corner of the "L". I make it slightly large to begin with and then I sand it to a perfect fit. All I need to do, is set the arrow on it (while nocked) and then adjust the rest to where the arrow is. |

Muzzyman, I had a QAD Pro rest and loved it until sometimes I started getting "bounceback", where the rest came back up just enough to hit the fletching as it flew by. But other manufacturers have had that same problem. I've heard the QAD LD took care of that issue.

RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
The LD doesn't bounce back. When the launcher goes down, it kind of sticks by some type of internal mechanism. Hard to explain, but it actually slows the launcher down just before it hits its bottom making it quieter also.
I powder tested and paper tuned last night after mounting it. I did have a little contact with the Blazers, but just rotated cock vane up and it resolved that issue quickly. I really like the design. One thing I've made up my mind on was total containment. I will not shoot another hunting rest without it being total containment. Especially after using the APA the last couple seasons. Of the people who used it, did anyone use the football thingy to attach the cord to the down cable? |
RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
Do you use the moleskin stuff on the rest prong?
|
RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
I haven't put it on yet as I am going to shoot it a while and keep an eye on clearance issues. Afterwards I'll stick it on.

RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
Hey guys, I shot this rest quite a bit tonight. Now, keep in mind I only shot 20 yards and did a real cheap walk back tune to that distance. But I have to say, this little rest seems like a real tack driver. So far, I'm pretty impressed. The thing that amazes me so far is how quiet it is. Its setup so that it falls and doesn't hit the shelf, but just a little off the shelf at fall.
The full containment feature works like a champ on it. Only problem I see so far is that I've been shooting cock vane up and am awefully close to the cables. I'll work on getting a clean release with cock down. I'm shooting Blazers right now and its very close, too close for me. About the only other complaint I have and this might turn out to be a null point is that the launcher arm itself is made of a high grade plastic. Delron I think it is. Other than that, I'm really liking it so far. |
RE: New Rest, kinda freaked out...
Man, yeah I HATE changing rests. That's why I've have the same rest on my bow since 2004. I'd like to try some stuff, but I don't have any complaints and I'm not changing until I have to.
