Fall away rests versus stationery rests
 

I have been shooting a fall away rest these last several months. I am shooting the Copper Johns Alleycatfall away rest. I still have not decided if I am sold on the fall away rests. I get a weird arrow once in awhile. Usually it's one arrow that hits 2-3 inches out of the group for some unknown reason. The shot felt good but it doesn't hit where I think it should. I have been shooting and tuning bows for 25 years and I usually shoot pretty small groups. I have worked with this rest and tried different tunes, and it shoots bullet holes through paper, but I still get an arrow now and then that goes haywire? I have my arrows numbered and its not aways the same arrow. I feel that when I shot my Golden Premier rest, I hardly ever had a arrow go out when the shot felt good, and I'm beginning to think I shot more consistent with it. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just getting old and my shooting going downhill?

I used to shoot an NAP Quicktune 1000 shoot through so all my arrows arer Cock Vane Down. I recently upgraded to the NAP QT 4000 fall away rest. My accuracy improved by 100% or better. On occasion I'll put an arrow out but they are all within 2" at 20 yards. So I am well sold on the fall away's. When I throw an arrow out I am convinced that the fault is MINE not that of my set-up and tuning [but that is rare]. I am now switching to a new method of releasing and expect that to help a great deal.

It sounds to me as though you are not all that confident with the rest or your set-up. Work on that confidence knowing that you have the best of al worlds.

I'd keep your fall away.

My trophy taker still groups as well as the day it went on. I am convinced they are better.

The GKF Premier you were shooting is an excellent rest,and while I personally shoot a GKF Mirage, I wouldn't of ditched the Premier for the CJ Alleycat!!! <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> A prong style rest is 99% as effective as fall aways, IMO. Prong styles are time proven and more than just a fad. While it is true that in instances where that little bit of extra forgivness is needed I do believe a fall away will get the nod, but a prong style is still and always will be an excellent choice. In your case, if my Premier would admitedly shoot better that my fall away, then I KNOW what rest I would be shooting!!! If it's a fall away you want you need to pick up a Mirage, OR you can wait to get your hands on the HOT new POWER DROP and HUNTER ELITE fallaways from GKF !!!:)<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

One thing that I think makes a drop away superior to fixed rest on a hunting bow is the launchers can be designed to prevent an arrow from falling off the rest at an inoportune moment. I think this feature is even greater than the total clearance issue...

Are those new GKF rests on their website yet? I'm gonna keep an eye out for new drop aways introduced at the show. If I had to buy one tomorrow, I'd be leaning heavily towards the NAP QT4000...

Rangeball, what launchers are you using, and are you using the Savage rest? BTW, the Magnocks are working great with my Savage.

I have never shot better than I do now with my ARC Systeme drop away.
And I'm shootin' pretty good lately (high 290s-300 with pins)
