What is the tube for on a peep with a tube sight?

The reason I ask is because my tube just snapped off and I could continue to shoot accurately with just the peep sight. It continued to rotate perfectly and offer me a clear view of my pins. So my question is, what does the tube do? Thanks

If your peep is aligning itself perfectly without the tube then you dont need it. Thats its whole reason for itbeing there. I shoot with a tube anyways though just in case. Would hate to draw back on a big buck and my peep not be aligned.

The tube makes sure that your peep aligns itself properly every time you draw. In order to shoot accurately now, you'll need to go purchase another length of tubing.

Another option is to purchase a tubless peep and have your pro shop install it for you.

The tube is to make sure the peep lines up. If you have no trouble without it, id forget it. It adds noise and slows the bow down too, plus if it snaps at full draw, you might get an eyeful. There are tons of peeps on the market that do not require a tube, and if you have a low stretch string with no peep alignment problems you're better off without it.

I agree with what has been said, the tubing does align the peep, but if the peep is coming back ok with out it, there is no need to get more tubing.

What's it for? For people who don't have good strings on their bows... because if you've got a good string there's absolutely NO need for it. It's just extra noise, extra weight and an injury waiting to happen.
