grayling jig how to?
if someone could be so kind as to list a set of guidelines to follow to fletch arrows with a grayling so i dont screw up on my first try.
Thanks |
RE: grayling jig how to?
It's pretty difficult to do wrong, actually. You see the magnet that the clamp holds to? Well, there are 2 knobs that you can loosen and change the angle (offset) of the clamp. Place an arrow in the jig, and w/ a fletch in the clamp (no glue) make sure the fletch is lying flat on the arrow. If it isn't, loosen the knob and move the clamp until it is. If the fletch is lying flat, you'll know it when you see it.
After that, using the marks on the clamp as a tool to ensure you put each fletch on in the same place, run a small bead of glue down the fletch, place clamp on jig, and set. Nothing to it. |
RE: grayling jig how to?
ok so you just turn the arrow with the back part that you nock it so it is equal each time and line up the fletchings the same
hey mo what do you clean your arrows with when you take off your fletchings |
RE: grayling jig how to?
as for removing old fletch and cleaning the shaft...
removing old fletch/cement is a pain with carbon arrows...i have notfound the perfect method for that....it takes me awhile to do mine but i just use a razor bladeto remove and 95% rubbing alchohl to clean...its a pain with carbon...and a lot easier on aluminium arrows in my experience. so i use feathers instead of vanes and use bohning fletch tape to fletch my arrows...its a lot easier to remove or if you want vanes use an arrow wrap they make it alot easier...just peel off the wrap and clean the shaft |
RE: grayling jig how to?
ok thanks alpha

RE: grayling jig how to?
Removing fletching and glue is actually quite simple, with the proper tools. Eithera Zip Strip or a serrated pocket knife work very well to remove fletching and glue, then alcohol to clean any residue.

RE: grayling jig how to?
mobow does the Ez-strip tool really work??? cuz i thought about getting it! i didnt cuz i just figured it was a gimmick. there is a little thing(curved hook with a chizeled edge kind of thing)on my multitool that seems to do a better job than a razor...but i almost always forget to use it out of habbit

mobow does the Ez-strip tool really work??? I just re-read your post....I'm not talking about the EZ strip from NAP....this is something else...let me do some looking to see if I can find it... Here it is....the Saunders fletch stripper.... http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=23959&hvarDept=400&a mp;hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=14&hvarSubCode =8&hvarTarget=browse |
RE: grayling jig how to?
thanks MO you da man...if you were here id give you 2 beers and a shot of wiskey!!!!:D:Dive only seen one called EZ strip i could be mistaken tho
[8D]i know what you mean about the "angle" i noticed that with my muti- tool but couldnt get the perfect angle due to the fact that it isnt designed for stripping fletch. |
RE: grayling jig how to?
Link in my previous post...
2 beers AND whiskey?? Man, after the day I've had, that sounds pretty damn good right about now... |
RE: grayling jig how to?
i dont own a shop or work at one but i do refletch arrows for friends at no cost except for material and i hate it when i have to remove vanes and cement...i've converted a few guys to feathers but most still shoot vanes...i like the "twist" i can put on a feather and i geta morconsistant flightout of my broadheads (more than with vanes with minor offset)...
|
RE: grayling jig how to?
thanks again MO...i would hook you up if i could bro
![]() :D |
RE: grayling jig how to?
You can put that same "twist" (helical) on vanes as well. (course, you prolly knew that..) Feathers do look a lot cooler though, that's for sure.
|
RE: grayling jig how to?
yea...but i use a biscuit and it likes feathers a lil better than vanes. also i like to splice diff colors together for fun
[8D] two beers and a shot of whiskey is what i ask for after a hard day...takes the edge right off;)if i had a real bad day i get a double shot of Johnnie Walker Black on the rocks instead of the single....i dont do it very often tho so dont be turning me in to AA....;) |
RE: grayling jig how to?
Ahhhh yes. The biscuit do indeed like feathers better, unless those vanes are Blazers.....;)
Know what....? I think, by golly, we've officially hi jacked this thread!!! :D |

ORIGINAL: Oneshot7 i came back looked at all the replies and went holy crap this thing must be popular How did it work? Did you get your first one fletched? Don't be surprised if your first couple don't come out very well. It's not a hard thing to do, but there are a few little tricks that you'll learn. |
RE: grayling jig how to?
dont know i am aobut to try the first one here in just a second got a seratted knife to get off the glue and fletching i will wrap it up and fletch it to see how it works
if i screw up and i am able to get teh lazer off unharmed i can reuse it cant i |
RE: grayling jig how to?
Um...prolly not. You won't get the glue residue off of the base and it won't fit snugly against the arrow.
|
RE: grayling jig how to?
took me time and i messed up 5 blazers and two wraps but i got it now thanks mo and alpha
