Shot the Hoyt Vectrix XL Last Night
Well last night I got to be the first person to shoot the 2007 Hoyt Vectrix XL last night at my local shop, They just got them in on tuesday so expect them to start showing up at your local shops soon if they don't have them already.
Well I have to say it is a very nice bow, It reminded me a lot of the Trykon XL with a few upgrades that make it better than the Trykon. The first thing I noticed was the the grip felt just a little bit thicker than the Trykon from last year. I personally thought the Trykon's grip was too thin. I liked the feel of the New Vector and 1/2 cam. Nice gradual increase in weight with a nice crisp breakover at the end of the draw cycle. It reminded alot of Bowtech's Binary cam but smoother. One area I was dissapointed was the finish of the bow. There seemed to be many white dots where the dipping process did not cover the riser correctly and there seemed to be many scratches through the finish to the bare metal from when the bow was assembled at the factory. Also the finish on the bow has a very rough texture to it, I'm not too sure what to think of that. Now on to the shooting. I have to say the bow is a very nice shooter. There is next to no noticeable hand shock on realease. But there was the all too familliar string buzz after firing a shot, but I do have to say it is much less than the Trykon last year and dissapeared very quickly. The sts type sytem Hoyt has included on the bow is very nice and seems to be well made. The supressor actually has a grove it it where the string will hit it instead of a flat surface and the supressor has little shock absobtion chambers in it likie a gun recoil pad would have. Hoyts STS system does not look like it can be adjusted to move it closer or further away from the string. I think has it set for what they feel is the optimal place for performance. Right now it looks to be set at about 1/8"- 1/4" away from the string. The bow was extremely quiet on the shot, probably one of the quietest bows I have ever shot. It also balanced very well in my hand even without a stabilizer on it. If you put something like a sims s-coil stab on it it would balance perfectly. The back wall of the draw was just slightly spongy but they include a drawstop to screw into the the cam to give a solid back wall. And the final thing I really did not care for was the price, $759. Right in line with all of the other manufacturers but I still don't like it. But overall it is a quality bow with some nice improvements from last years Trykon. I think many hoyt fans will be pleased along with anyone else looking for a quality bow. I feel the Vectrix XL is a very nice fit for someone looking for a bow to pull double duty as a target bow and a hunting bow. Overall a very pleasurable shooting experience last night.:) |
RE: Shot the Hoyt Vectrix XL Last Night
Good review. It's obvious Hoyt customers weren't pleased with the string buzz on last years Trykon and they've taken steps to correct it.
I'm very satisfied with my Trykon and I bought it at the right time at a good discount. With the STS in place and some cats whiskers, the string buzz is pretty much gonzo. While I haven't shot the new Vectrix, to me it just looks like a redone Trykon.aIf I was in the market for a new high end Hoyt bow, I'd be trying to track down a left over Trykonat a good discount instead of dropping $750 on a Vectrix. |

That is awesome, I saw one of these a couple days ago.
The rough texture of the finish might be some sort of sound dampening sort of like undercoat on a car. Not sure if that makes sense but its possible. Sounds like a good bow, I might have to go test drive one. |

Good review. I like reading them because I learn things from what is not said. Didn't know there was a string buzz problem. Didn't care for the weight of the tykon. Hows this one compare?

A very informative and objective review. Looks like Hoyt listens to the market as they basically adressed what my concerns ( and I'm sure the majority of others ) about the trykon were last year when I tested one and passed on it. Should sell very well.

ORIGINAL: nodog Good review. I like reading them because I learn things from what is not said. Didn't know there was a string buzz problem. Didn't care for the weight of the tykon. Hows this one compare? One area that did concern me was the fact it didn't appear that you could adjust Hoyts sts type system closer or further away from the string. I personally think that if the sts could be adjusted closer to the string you could eliminate the string buzz. But i'm sure Hoyt did enough testing that they determined that this is the optimal setting for the best performance out of the bow. The shop also has the shorter Vectrix I didn't get to shoot that yet, next time I go up there I plan on shooting the Vectrix and the Vectrix XL side by side. And even may shoot a few arrows through the chrono with a 350grn arrow to see what kind of speed they come up with. I am just shooting these bows just for giggles and so I know what these bows shoot like when I'm working at the shop from time to time. It cracks me up when shops reccomend bows that they have never shot. I still love my Bowtech Old Glory and don't plan on giving it up any time soon.:) |

I may be completely wrong on this but it didn't look like it could be adjusted. I will take a better lokk next time I get around one. That's funny you said that about the brace height. I thought the same thing last night.;) |

I think if you look a little closer I believe there are two hex screws holding the Stealthshot in place.
I am pretty sure the dealer installs them as they come into the shop. Can anyone verify my assumptions? From what I saw of the bow - haven't shot it yet -I did notice the rough paint but not so much the flaws (white spots, bare metal, etc). But then again, I feel a little uncomfortable in my local Hoyt dealer, so I was there strictly to see the bow and get out. I am planning on making a trip to a dealer up north to place my order and take care of my '07 bow needs. Either way, I did draw the bow back. Noticed how smooth the draw was and how the serving and string seem to be higher quality. Does that mean after 1000's of shots they will hold up like aftermarket? Who really knows at this point. I am guessing they won't. Thecam lean seemed to be present as well. Butcenter shothas supposedlybeen fixed. The FUSE String Shox were indeed a blend of last yearsand SIMS String leeches. Morph the two and you have the '07 String Shox. The bow did feel a touch lighter. But then again, I am use to picking up a fully outfitted Trykon. So that is a rough guess. In the end, I was a little surprised by the finish of the bow. But the draw cycle on the Vector camsseemed a touch above the Zephyr cams. No harsh breakover (even though I am used to the Trykon) I am eyeing up an Vectrix XL for this year. It will be a great double duty bow, maybe even taking the place of the Trykon as my main hunting bow. Before I make my decision I am going to shootthe crap out of alotof bows. Until then, I am pleased with the Vectrix. |
RE: Shot the Hoyt Vectrix XL Last Night
Bols,
The shop I shot the bow at I also work at part-time, and I can assure you that the bow came already put together. So I know the shop did not put the string supressor on the bow. I do know this because I asked the owners if they had adjusted it this way and they said that is the way it came. Now I did see the 2 hex screws you spoke about and was going to mess with them the next time I get my hands on the bow. One aspect I forgot to mention was the cam lean or should I say lack there-of. I did not notice any cam lean at all on the bow I shot, I also asked someone else to look at the cams while at full draw and they saw nothing also. Like I stated before I'm not real crazy about the finish but if I liked the bow enough I wouldn't let that stop me from buying it. I also purposely while at full draw tried to see how easily the cam wanted to pull back over and was happy to see that if you ever stop pulling with your back muscles or creep forward some while holding the bow at full draw, the cams do not want to roll back over very easily and rip the string out of your hands. I've had some bows in the past that if you creeped just a little the cams wanted to roll back over and I really hated that a lot. |
