Best hunting sight
Hey guys,
I just broke the fiber going to two of the pins in my Copper John 3 pin sight. I really like this sight and am probably going to buy new pins, but am thinking about putting this sight on my kids new bow and upgrading the sight on my bow, a brand new Switchback. So, my question is, what is the best bang for the buck out there. Looking for a sight that has 3 to 5 pins, prefer 3 or 4 probably. I hunt mostly, so that is really what I am looking for. My personal limit is 40 yards, my real comfort range is 30 yards. That is why I have never gone with more than 3 pins. 20, 30 and 40 yards has suited me fine. Price, well I don't want to say it isn't an object. I am willing to pay more, if I get more. This is the second Copper John 3 pin I have had and am very happy with it, I just know there are more and better out there and am looking for some advice. Thanks bunches in advance. Hank |

heres one a buddy of mine designed
but it aint no CJ |
RE: Best hunting sight
Spot Hogg......literally the last sight you will "have" to buy.
Tough as nails with the most precice adjustments I have seen short of a target sight. None better in my opinion. All of my bows with pin sights wear a Hogg. |
RE: Best hunting sight
I've been doing some reading and looking.
Have to say, I am impressed by the Apex Twil hunter listed above. They are hard to find, butI may give one a try. If not, I'll either get another CJ or a Hogg. Thanks for the input guys. Hank |
RE: Best hunting sight
Talk to Rick James, he is a HNI member. He has these in stock and will be able to ship them to you.

RE: Best hunting sight
After disappointment with seeing the pins on the Copper John, I changed. I put the Toxonics K9 HD on my Switchback XT. WOW what a difference. The pins have continued glowing long after others would have faded out.
I highly recommend this site. It is a little pricey but the last shght you'll need to buy. |
RE: Best hunting sight
I will agree the fiber on the CJ are junk ! I put new fiber in & it's as good as any sight ! spott hogg are awsome ! just little more then i need for hunting.

RE: Best hunting sight
Thanks guys,
I ordered an Apex Twilight hunter w/ the .19 pins yesterday. This looks to be a good option. I agree w/ the comments on the CJ sights. I like the sight itself, but the fiber is much to brittle. I did find some replacement fiber to get me through till the new one shows up. I'll probably get some good pins for it and put my CJ on my kids bow. Thanks again. Hank |
RE: Best hunting sight
I have to second the Spot Hogg. The hunter hogg it with aftermarket fibers is hard to beat. It costs some dime, but it is well worth it. I didn't believe it until I tried it.

RE: Best hunting sight
I shoot a 5 pin Cobra Sidewinder LX I am pretty happy with it, I have shot multiple outdoor 3d tourneys with it and have been hunting almost every weekend this bow season with it.
I will admit those Hogg's look pretty appealing but I couldn't justify spending that kind of coin. |
RE: Best hunting sight
trophy ridge I love mine.I broke a pin one time my fault, called trophy ridge
they sent me a new sight complete!!Before I even sent them my old one. The inline pins are great and the no tool adjustment is awsome!!The best is with the vibration dampers in it I had problems with the mounting screws coming loose untill I converted my. |
RE: Best hunting sight
the Spot Hog line-up is really nice....i also like HHA sliders tho...best sight is a tuff ???? lots of good makers out their.

RE: Best hunting sight
My vote goes to Spot Hogg as well. I've been using a Hunter Hogg-it for two years now and never had to worry about it. It'll definitely out last any other sight on the market bar none. Plus, you get micro adjustments and and total, solid aluminum construction.
The only beef i've heard about the Hoggs is the pins weren't very bright. Honestly, they're plenty bright for me. If its too dark to see these pins, its too dark to shoot anyway. |

ORIGINAL: 98Redline Spot Hogg......literally the last sight you will "have" to buy. Tough as nails with the most precice adjustments I have seen short of a target sight. None better in my opinion. All of my bows with pin sights wear a Hogg. |
RE: Best hunting sight
That Apex looks intriguing. I may have to try one next year.
I shoot a Hogg-it for 3-D & have hunted with it before but prefer brighter pins for hunting. I used a Tox last year but had the same brittle pin problems described above. Only had one fiber remaining by the end of the season. Using the Extreme Sniper this season.....so far so good. |
RE: Best hunting sight
The skylight by black gold. You can seethe pins under moonlight.

RE: Best hunting sight
I like the Eradicator because it has sights like a handgun andI always shot a handgun 10 times better than a bow !
It's alsoavailable with tritium which glows in total darkness. www.eradicator.com Sag |
