Build your perfect bow from the buffet...
 

Suppose you walked into a virtual smorgasborg of bow parts from every manufacture and could pick and choose specific components that when assembled would fit your criteria for the perfect bow (since we're dreaming, assume the geometry would all work perfectly). What would you choose?

Ok, I'd go with a longer reflexed riser similar to many companies today, but made of carbon with the emphasis on shock absorbtion and not lighter overall mass weight, would weigh the same as a comparable machined aluminum riser. Overall mass weight of the bow would be around 3# 4oz...

I'd go with the new Merlin limbs, and Winner's Choice strings and cables. Limb design would be more parallel, and brace would be about 8.5".

Cams would either be smooth drawing dual or hybird CPS type system, with a split yoke cable system, or possible have the cables attach outside the limb yoke for an automatic split. Cables go straight up and down to each cam, if that makes any sense.

Grip would be slim, like the current Diamond grip, which feels great in my hand, narrow throat and laminated camowood sideplates, using part of the riser for the grip.

IBO would be 350ish, and overall ATA would be 30-34". Camo would be the new Harwoods HD, with the autum bronze limb pockets.

I'd buy that bow in a heartbeat. What about you?

I had a thread similar to this last year entitled the perfect bow(or something to that effect). Anyway, it was kinda scary because a couple of months after that post here comes the &quot;Patriot&quot;. I did everything but paint the picture of the Patriot. I guess someone was listening.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> That being said and not wanting to be a hypocrite I am going to stick with the Patriot as the perfect hunting bow.

I had one of those and it blew up while it was just setting there. It had only been shot about 10 times. The riser literally snapped and flew into 2 seperate pieces about 2 inches below the top limb pocket. The string and cables is the only thing that kept the top half of the riser from shooting across the room. HCA's answer was that it must have been a bad batch of carbon.<img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle> I not so politely asked that they send me an aluminum one in return.

I would like to add the 20 degrees biogrip. Not that I've ever shot one and liked it, it just seems like an I deal thing to have for easier shooting.

Mine would be a BT Patriot dual cam with Merlin Pro Fusion limbs.

I would stick with my Merlin Super Nova but would put Stewart's Wedel cams on it because they have zero cam lean and no spreaders.
Merlin is supposed to come out soon with a three track cam of their own. Until then, the Wedel is the best cam going.

I can get everything I want on my smorgasborg from Hoyt's ultratec except maybe a better string and that would be custom made by a buddy of mine.

Dave, Thanks for reminding me! Yes, the angled grip would definitely be on the bow. I held a golden eagle recently with the angled grip, and it definitely fit my natural hand angle to a T.

Silent Assasin, I know you'll correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't HC's emphasis been on making their carbon risers as light as possible? I think this is dead wrong, they should concentrate on making them as heavy as current aluminum risers, which would seem to realy increase their dampening capabilities as well as make them much much stronger. Properly designed, I think an all carbon riser could be killer...

I'd have to build several bows depending on what the bow is to be used for!!! To me bows are somewhat like boats, an offshore boat can't get you up shallow creeks very well, nor can a canoe take that much rough water. All of them float, but certain designs suit certain useages better. :)
