String Wax
Was wondering what kind of string wax I should be using. Have used the Bohning wax in the tube for years and it seems to work well. I see a lot of references now to silicone based waxes, I know winners choice sells a conditioning kit. What should I be using? If you could provide some product names and where to get them. Thanks.

RE: String Wax
ML6 Bowstring Wax by BCY, Inc. at Gander Mountain and other fine stores. You won't find it at Walmart.

RE: String Wax
My favorite is the Black Diamond, but I can't find it anymore.

RE: String Wax
I used old Bohning Textite for years and years. Broke with tradition a few years ago and started using ProRelease Black Lightning. It's slick stuff, not tacky like Textite, because it's silicone and graphite based. It seems to dry out pretty fast, but I wax my string and cables at least once a week anyway, so it's no big deal.
When I use a release, I also use it to wax my string loop and it's the cat's arse for that. Keeps the loop stiff for easy hookup butit doesn't build up on my release jaws like Textite did. |
RE: String Wax
I use Tex-Tite, but I little thing I do after I wax the string good is take a blow dryer across it. You should see the wax melt down and get deep into the string. Try it and let me know what you think. It doesn't take long and you'll see it work.

RE: String Wax
I use 100% natural beeswax and work it into the string with a piece of leather.
