ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
Hey guys/gals
I was reading a post here about whether to shoot a string loop or off the string and was seriously considering giving the string loop a try. My question is, which brand/type release would you recommend using for shooting a string loop?? I tried a string loop VERY briefly a short time ago and found that my release didn't work very well with it. I'm using a Cobra release but have had it for quite some time, so couldn't tell you which model it is. Anyway, when I tried the string loop, the loop pulled right through the jaws of my release while I was drawing back. Now, this could be from years of shooting this release and maybe it is worn out. That's why I wanted to get some input on the different releases that other people use to shoot string loops. Appreciate anyone and everyones advice on this!!! :D |
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I would recomend a Scott release such as the lil goose. I have been using a mongoose for years with no problems at all.

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
If you like your Cobra, but are interested in upgrading to a newer model I would suggest the Mamba R1. I got one as part ofa graduation present and I love it.

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
Truball Loop Master Release Buckle Strap
|
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I use the regular Scott Mongoose with my loop. Works great. Buckle strap, no velcro. ;)

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
The best loop release I've found (other than my Carter Big Kid 3-D) is the Scott Rhino. It hooks in fast and easy and has a super sweet trigger.

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I shoot a Cobra Pro release that is a couple of years old and have never had a problem with the loop pulling through the jaws.

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I can not tell you the name of my release other than it is a scott.
I can tell youthis, you shouldavoid using the "CAMO" string for your loop. For some reason it is a smaller diameter cord and will slip through the jaws of some caliper releases. |
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
you shouldavoid using the "CAMO" string for your loop. For some reason it is a smaller diameter cord and will slip through the jaws of some caliper releases. Brownell camo loop material with a diameter of .078" or .083"is plenty large enough and larger than many other materials. Brownell also makes a "low creep" material that measures .068" in diameter is is the best IMO. Very slick, incredibly wear resistant, and light weight. There are many many different "cords" made from many different materials available to use a loop material. AS to the original question just about any release made from any of the major players in the release business will work just fine. I have a Scott sabertooth (dual caliper)and it is the bestI have used to date. It is part of the new "family" of releases from Scott which include thesilverhorn (hook)and the wildcat (single cliper). |
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I have been using a true glow release with my loop without fail ,it has the velcro wrist strap , swivel headand adjustable lenth to fine tune the draw lenth

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
![]() This is the Winn Free Flight loop hook model. It is designed specifically for string loops. It's really easy to hook on the loop because it's an open hook. The Winn Free Flight is the best hunting release there is IMO. The other great thing about this release is that the head is so short on it. This means you don't have to sacrifice draw length when shooting a string loop. |
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
truball short an sweet is an excelent loop release

ORIGINAL: loanstarhunter I can tell youthis, you shouldavoid using the "CAMO" string for your loop. For some reason it is a smaller diameter cord and will slip through the jaws of some caliper releases. |
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I shoot a Scott lil goose and works great, but have tried the Rhino also, good luck with you're choice.

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I use a Tru-Fire Hurricane, and I love it. Has been very reliable.
|
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
Tru-ball short and sweet is the way to go because when you add a loop you change your draw legnth. The short and sweet is designed to offset this by moving the trigger forward thus keeping everything the same as it was before adding the loop.I reccomend the buckle type over the velcro type.

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I've been very happy with by Winn Loop Hook glove. The hook is close to the trigger, so you get maximum power stroke. (Many other releases have the jaws or hook way forward of the trigger, which will cost you some arrow speed.)

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
Scott little goose or little bitty goose! Nothing but quality!
|
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I use the Scott Sabertooth, buckle strap with my look and it works great.
|
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I just switched to the Winn loop glove. I love it. One word of caution, the xl is huge. I have big hands and the xl was way too big for me. Most folks would probably use the large. Xl should only be for those with big hands and heavy gloves.

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
This is the one i use and i love this thing(Tru-ball hunter glove II)

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
![]() ![]() Just look at the top one versus the bottom one. If you use the bottom one you're giving up a full inch of draw length! One inch = 10 fps loss of speed.Go with the top one - the Winn Free Flight loop hook model. You can also hook the release onto the loop without looking. That's handy when that big buck is in front of you. |
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
Scott lil' goose w/ buckle strap. No velcro here either.
When tying on your string loop. Wax the string first. This helps to seat/tighten the knot. |
RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
I shoot with the SCOTT lil goose and love it. Good Luck!!

RE: ATTENTION: STRING LOOP SHOOTERS
Have shot a Cobra Pro for six years with a loop. I have never had a problem. My Dad has been shooting the same release as me for 10-15 years...not a problem.
