Broaadhead and vain alignment - important?
I have seen a couple of threads mention broadhead and vain alignment, and I have read on eastons site about certain inserts to allow for proper alignment, especially since I am about to invest in a dozen new arrows, but is it really that important? What is the proper alignment? Are the vains and blades supposed to be perfectly straight? If they are off a bit, how much will that affect flight, accuracy, speed? If they are not aligned, how can this be acheived once your arrows are already made?

RE: Broaadhead and vain alignment - important?
It's NOT an issue. Think about it like this. How many 2 blade broadheads are on the market. Obviously you can't line up 2 blades with three feathers[8D]OR, how about the 4 bladed broadheads, you can't line them up with three feathers either. If it were an issue, do you think these broadheads would be ever used.
Why not try to line the broadhead with your fletchings on one of your arrows, and then do the opposite with another arrow, shoot them both. I'll bet they fly the same. If not, you've got a tuning issue and no matter the alignment, you've got other issues! |
RE: Broaadhead and vain alignment - important?
Years ago it used to be the norm to align your broadhead blades with the vanes. That was before offset risers, and many of the broadheads were huge. Today, its not necessary in most cases. As long as your arrows and broadheads are straight, don't worry about vane to blade alignment.

No
When they say inserts allow for alignment . its for vane/rest clearance , or broadhead inline with the shaft . Broadhead blade to fletching makes no diferance in arrow flight . Your concerns are quality matched arrows of the proper spine for your aplication fletch clearance broadhead alignment with the shaft good nock fit enough fletch to stear your arrow [read lots if shooting fixed heads] remember grip toqure and other flaws in form realy show up when shooting fixed broadheads |

Quick painless and to the point.... I thank you for your answers. It did not really make sense to me - like in the context Howler put it - 2 blade and 4 blade cant line up no matter what, but I figured I would ask. I now understand, thanks to ijimmy, what their alignment means.
