Bow Creak!
Man!
The old Darton Excel just started with a creak about every 3-4th draw. It's a nice loud creak too. Can not tell if it is coming from the top cam or the top limb attachment. Opener is less than a week away, I donot want to pull it apart. Can I use some spray lube on the top cam and limb attachment ? or would this hurt the string. Any words of wisdom ? Thanks, Nick |
RE: Bow Creak!
I would also be checking the limbs. A crack will also cause that noise. Head to a pro shop and have it checked over. May be something simple as well.

RE: Bow Creak!
I had a Darton that started doing that. The guy that owned the Pro shop near me at that time lubed the area where the limbs and riser contact each other -- the whole limb blot area. It fixed my problem. You can probably accomplish nearly the same thing with a can of spray lithium grease with the long skinny tube. It may not help, but it doesn't hurt to try.

I'd at least spray somethime on it before running out to someplace. They are making gun lubes in an earth scent know. Just a thought. Sounds like what happens with Hoyts. Just a bushing getting a little sticky.

RE: Bow Creak!
I had an Excel about 10 years ago, and yeah, it was tough to keep it quiet at the place where that draw adjustment disk goes around the axle. I would try spray lube to see if that cures the ill. It could also be the limb pivot area, which would require that the limb be taken off and lubed. I had a creaking problem with one of my Champions. I had to remove the limb and lube it where it fits into the limb pocket. Problem solved, and it did not change where the bow shot at all, so do what you need to do to get rid on the noise. Good luck.

RE: Bow Creak!
I had a creaking problem on my Hoyt, but it wasnt the cams or the limbs. It was actually the cable slide which had gotten some dirt on it. I would recommend maybe trying some oil on that as well.

RE: Bow Creak!
dartons are very bad for creaks... mine did that alot, ended up using sythetic grease in the limb pockets and a good spray oil around the cams...
grease is good because it doesnt just dry up like oil seems to disappear so quickly |
