Anyone shoot a PSE Nova?

Just wondering if anyone that shoots a Nova has ever had a problem with it popping when you start to draw. About 2 inches into the draw. My Nova is brand new and I have had it at the pro shop trying to get it fixed for the majority of the time that I have owned it.

They have replaced the cable slide, taken the bow apart several times to oil and grease parts, and even taken the grip off to put a pad underneath because they thought it was rubbing. I keep telling him that the cams are causing it but all he says is no.

It does it worst when I shoot several times, set the bow down for a while and then shoot again. If this is a common problem with the Nova, I just assume move on to another bow. They are going to replace it with another Nova, but I don't want it if the new one is going to do the same thing. I wouldn't be happy if I was about to draw on a deer and my bow pops.

Thanks for any help.

I shoot a Nova, mine was doing that too untill I got it tuned and cams timed, limbpockets greased and some other things. What cams are on your Nova?

This happens every once in a while. It could be the rockers under the limb, but you did say it was torn down and greased. One thing comes to mind is the little washers at the limb tips that the cable yoke attaches to. These could be sticking a bit and not rotating smoothly as you draw.

It's not something common to Nova's. In fact, it isn't common to any bow. It's just one of those things that happens every once in a while. At least the shop is willing to replace the bow. That at least says he's willing to try to satisfy you. Give him credit due.

I have the SU cams.

As far as giving my pro shop credit, I do. He has been nothing but helpful. I agree that it is the washers by the cams. But I even watched him take all that apart and put oil on the pin. Maybe the washers didin't get enough in between them.

What kind of oil or grease should you use?

the wife shoots one and has been for awhile now with no problems but I have heard of this problem with some of the earlier nova's and the problem is the limb pockets.

My pro shop actually changed out the limb pockets and everything has been greased. After he did that he said that should fix it, but it didn't.

huh? i cant believe the tech at the pro shop didnt draw the bow after going through all that trouble?? you know to make sure it actually fixed the problem... I cant believe he would do all that work then just hand it back to you un fixed. maybe its your release aid? some release aids have been known to pop when enough pressure is applied to the mechanism. which would explain why you are hearing a noise but the tech likely didnt after he fixed the bow, im sure you didnt leave your release with him while he was workin on the bow..

I've been shooting a Nova for 4 seasons and have had no noise problems, thankfully. I agree with DesertWolf, the bow should have been test drawn before leaving the shop. At any rate, good luck getting it quiet.:)

Not sure what else to tell ya bud. AndI was wrong it wasnt my Nova that wasmaking that noise it was my Pro-Line. I havent had any issues with my Nova at all.

Jay,

The most common grease used is white lithium. And it only takes a very small dab between the limb and the cable washer--not just on the axle. I also agree with the other guys in that I would have shot the bow for 1/2 hour or so before leaving the shop with it.

Although I've never encountered a problem with the release I wouldn't rule it out.

Just thought of something. Depending on how much clearance you have maybe your cable guard rod is rotated too far and putting undue pressure on the limb tips. Just something else to look at.

He did use white lithium grease on the limb pockets. On the cams he used machine oil (what he called it).

Unfortunately I had to go to work when I picked it up from the shop. He wanted me to shoot it, I just didn't have the time.

As for the release causing the problem,it does it when you draw with fingers too. And he did try it out. In fact, he said he let just about every customer that came in shoot it. Not too crazy about that. I'm glad he is willing to give me another bow.

I shoot a PSE Polaris Express, its an older model(11yrs? or so). recenty I notice it making a poping (just one very quick snap while drawing)noise while drawing every once in a while(every 15 shots maybee). but im not sure where it comes from it never really bothered me because it wasnt all that loud, i just figuered it needed some teflon spray lube applied to the cam. ill check into this soon and post what i find out while tinkering.

jay does it pop if you draw slowly? is it more that one pop? does it pop at the same point in your draw everytime?

JayT30 09-02-2006 07:03 PM

RE: Anyone shoot a PSE Nova?

Yes, it does pop if you draw slowly. It does pop more than once. And it pops within the first 2 inches of draw. Of course, it will only pop after it sits a while. If I shoot it a lot, put it down for 15 minutes, and come back and draw it will pop very loud.

Id get a new bow for sure if its that bad and theyve tried everything. Im almost positive mine is just a lube problem(i hope) becausei thinkdoes it at the same point in my draw cycle. im definately going to check tomarrow.

Sometimes i wonder about some shops did you see him do the work on it?

RE: Anyone shoot a PSE Nova?

Yes, I saw him tearit down several times. But I was unable to stay for everything that he did. I don't doubt that he's trying. He told me before I bought my bow that he doesn't make much off of the bow itself. He said what he wants to do is get me addicted to it. Because I will continue to go back when that happens. He probably didn't reallize how much of a pest I would be if there was a problem with the bow.

Well I lubed my axles and cable slide with dupont teflon this morn and it shut my bow right up. It draws quite a bit smoother 2(must have really needed it), probly picked up a few fps as well.

jay

id probly get fed up in no time if my bow was that bad and get somthin i can be happy with. just my 2cent.

Shot my PSE Nova for 4 years before upgrading to Mathews Switchback XT. My PSE was a very dependable bow with no problems.
