Best Mech. Head.
Looking for the best 75 grain mech. head. I will be delivering over 90lbs of KE.
Is a bigger cutting dia. better? 2 blade vs. 3 blade? Should I use fixed heads instead?<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle> Please help, I have a hunt in Pike County IL. this weekend! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Good judgment comes from years of bad judgment. |
RE: Best Mech. Head.
In the 75 grn heads there are some pretty good ones, but Rocket would have the most choices for you. The wasp Jackhammer is also pretty good.

RE: Best Mech. Head.
The 75 grain GKF Deadhead Lil' Devil has an awesome 1 3/4" cut.....simply devastating!!!

RE: Best Mech. Head.
75 grain Rocket mini blaster. An excellent mechanical. BIG cut! Flies just like your field tip.

Frank (Kidd642) nailed it: Go with what you want, but you'll definitely do yourself a disservice if you don't look into the Rocket Aerohead Miniblaster!! It'll open up in ANYTHING (I 'bout split a turkey neck into a few years ago), and has a 1-3/4" cutting diameter. It's truly an awesome head.

Ab ,
Can I ask what setup you have that produces 90lbs of KE<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: Best Mech. Head.
Yes, same question as Rack-Attack. That must be one heck of a fast bow.

RE: Best Mech. Head.
With that much KE you really want a big cutting diameter. I have about 64 KE and shoot 100 grain Wasp Jackhammer (1 3/4" cut dia) It blasts through easily acheiving full pass throughs (even through bone) and bleeds more than any deer I've shot with a shotgun slug! This head is not for everyone! You need high KE! You have it and the nice thing is tracking is hardly an issue. They go down quickly!
Good Luck! PRACTICE....PRACTICE....PRACTICE......SUCCESS! |

PS: Just got that $50 bucks back from BT, & a nice sticker. The wife doesn't know about the 50 bucks so here comes the stealth stab.

PETE GUN CONTROL IS HITTING WHAT YOU AIM AT!! |
RE: Best Mech. Head.
Although my experience with mechanicals is limited, I would agree with bbahunter. I also use the Rocket Wolverine 75's. I pulled a pair of doe's within 15 min of each other and neither ran more then 25 yards. Completely devistating.

RE: Best Mech. Head.
I have been shooting the 75 grain Rocket Miniblasters 3 Blade, since they first came out. They fly just like my field points. I love them! I have not lost a deer with them, I shot more than a dozen deer with them, several real nice bucks and most do not go much more than 40-50 yards. I have shot several turkeys with them too with excellent results. I did switch to the Rocket Slammerheads this year. The only difference in them is the Slammerheads have a bigger cutting point on them and weight 95 grains, other than that they are the same broadhead. I have shot a couple of deer and turkeys with the Slammerheads this year with the same excellent results.
