Best way to silence your string....
I am trying to get my bow to be quieter and have got most of the vibration out by puttting limbsaver on the bows limbs and a limbsaver stabilizer...the only thing that bugs me now is that when I shoot the string pops pretty loudly...do I really need to worry about this?? what are the best products out there to do that job WELL...thanks

RE: Best way to silence your string....
I hear the cat whiskers work pretty well. I have been thinking about replacing my Tribute string silencers with some whiskers.

Cat Whiskers! They work, they last, they're cheap. Try em.

RE: Best way to silence your string....
I use string leeches (served in)and they last a long time and work very well for me.I've heardothers who claimopposite results than mine and say theleechestear up, fly off and don't last very long but i can honestly say i don't have that problem and never have.I install themas close to thecamsas i can against the servingand then serve in the other side. They have always done an excellent job for me at silencing the string.

Wouldn't a heavier arrow also be quieter?

RE: Best way to silence your string....
The first thing I would suggest is have a friend stand about 5 feet away when you shoot and see how loud your bow sounds. My bow sounds very loud to me but everyone around me says it is quiet. If you still want it to be quieter, try some string leaches. The straight ones last longer than the ones shaped like a Z. A heavier arrow will quiet it down more also.

I use the yarn puff balls. They are cheap and virtually last forever. They are also the quietest thing I have heard on a string. The down side is when hunting they pick up every freakin' sticky seed thingy in the woods;).

I agree with Paul about the "Puffs". They are very effective. One downside he didn't mention is that they soak up water in the rain. Gives you a good shower when you shoot the bow.
That's why I use Simm's Super Leeches now. They are not like the ones Mykey is using. His are the old style shaped like an "S". The newer ones (also used for crossbows) are much better. It still pays to serve them into place. And as mentioned, the good old reliable Cat Whiskers have worked for decades and still do. About as inexpensive as you can get and usually last till you scrap the string. |
