bow workbench ?
Seen a cheap looking plastic job at Gander, anyone know of a better quality bow holder/bench?
I don't really want to go for a press yet.;) |
RE: bow workbench ?
I have one, it's not bad to tinker on your bow with, compartments so you don't misplace anything but I also have the press, bow vise, arrow saw, string jig, laser tuner, levels, fletch jig, tools, servers etc..etc...;) I like being self proficient and reliable.....and it's fun. I enjoy helping friends out as well...
Again, if your talking the plastic bow holder that is red with black holders, yup...not bad at all. |
RE: bow workbench ?
Harvestor - are you talking about a workbench or a bow vice? Or are you looking for an inexpensive bow Press?
All 3 are different animals. As for bow press I wouldn't recommend you even consider "cheap". I know I wouldn't want a $700 bow sitting in something that was cheap! If you are talking about a bench or vice you can go inexpensive. As for a bench I got these plastic corner frames and build my own out of 2X4's and a sheet of plywood. No drawers but very stable and for the size I couldn't beat the $60 price tag. Mine came with a plastic vice that attaches to it, but I haven't tried it out so can't recommend for holding a bow. If you want info on the bench kit, PM me and I'll find the website for ya. |

Hopefully my club will be putting a press in the archery shed soon. Sounds like you have your own pro shop going on over there in Pa. :D |
RE: bow workbench ?
I have one that's double duty and beautiful, cost about 20 bucks and some time. Made it out off some 60 year old cherry from a farm I hunt on now. Did the owners kitchen with it and had a few scrapes left over. It's a vise and holder custom made to fit my bow. The joints were well made so I decided to test it, damned if it almost didn't hold. Reinforced it with 2 1/4" threaded rods. Just copy the specs off of one of the expensive ones.
Would love to make a grip out of the cherry. It is unlike any other cherry. The grain moves like wheat in the wind. Plan on making custom archery/gun sanctuaries in my retirement. |
