RE: Should I be shooting left handed?

There is not a bit of confusion on this end. Learning to adapt to differing situations is an attribute. Understanding your body and how to deal with what may be obstacles to ordinary thinking is an asset.

I invite you or anyone else to visit my store for a demonstration. Many on this and other forums who are customerscan attest to what they've seen. I can shoot quarters at 20 yards very rapidly and change from right to left-handed shooting alternately with the same bow.

I've taught quite a few people to do this. One was a wheelchair bound person who found that shooting both ways doubled his hunting opportunities. Others have also found shooting both ways to not only increase their hunting opportunities but to increase their shooting effectiveness from their dominate side.

I'd be glad to teach you if you've got the time and desire.;)

i would highly recommend you do something different. you don't want something bad to happen when the big boy is around... close your eye or get a different bow.

Your advice is totally misguided. It's the 'big boy' who has a problem when I've got a release on either hand. Last year 5 of the 17deer I shotcould attest to that fact.:D

WHAT???? Fix a thing of beauty that isn't broke.[&:] You have to see the beauty of it to see the advantage. Len and I hunt together. Quite often we'll set up close to each other just for the heck of it. That way we can laught at the same things when the hunt is over.[8D] WE have climbed separate trees as close as 40-50 yards apart on many occasions. Ahhhh the stories and laughs. Anyway, an example. I'm sitting 50 yards from Len one day. I thought I saw something move near him as he sat there, so I picked up my binos. Yup a doe not 10 yards in front of him. She passes at that distance on his left. He starts to draw and the deer bolts but settles and walks directly under his stand not 2 feet from the tree. Through all this, Len has never gotten to his feet. He's sitting comfy in his big padded Buckshot stand. The deer walks under him and out the other side. Len slowly swithches hands, draws and drills the sucker at 10 yards on the other side of the tree.

And who can forget the day I was coming back from a bow hunt in New York. I was about 3 miles north of the Baltimore Beltway when I got a frantic call. Where are you? I could use some help... yada yada yada... and oh, bring a camera. I diverted and headed for where he was hunting. We hooked up about 30 minutes later. Len started telling me the story. In hearing it I almost had flashbacks of the Red commies coming at me from the left, commies to the right, just shoot to defend yourself. Well it might not have been that bad, but with deer coming by him on all sides Len proceeded to play bobble head doll shooting left and right. When the dust settled about 20 seconds after it began, Len had shot a doe which is not in the picture. She went down the hill and we would have to take her out a different way. He also had saved his buck tags and decided this was the day to use them. [8D][8D][8D] YUP, nothing to fix.[8D]

RE: Should I be shooting left handed?

Well, I got my answer yesterday when I shot a left-handed Reflex Excursion and it felt like an old friend...and by that I mean the shooting left handed AND the bow. Now I'm about this close to making a whole lot of foolish expenses to upgrade my entire bow setup from the $99 Fred Bear bow package I bought in 1990!:D

P.S. I've been reading the forum like a madman for the past couple of weeks and I must say that you guys suck big time for making me open my otherwise very closed wallet so wide![8D]

ORIGINAL: MOTOWNHONKEY
I shoot with both eyes open using a peep. I use the3/16 inch model.
Crap.... I still can't do that!! [&o] I'm left eye dominant and shoot a lefty bow. That's just the way I am. If I try to open my right eye, everything goes to heck real quick! [&:] I see two pins, or two targets. I know there is a trick to doing it, but I just haven't figured it out yet. How come I can knock down clay pigeons shooting skeet with both eyes open, but I can't shoot a bow or rifle with both eyes open? Let's face it... I'm nuts!!! [:-]

RE: Should I be shooting left handed?

I recently bought a Reflex Highlander and I had a hard time deciding if I wanted left or righty. I am right handed and left eye dominate. Since I was new to the sport of archery I decided to go lefty. I talked with many pros about this and they stated if I was all ready shooting right handed then I should keep shooting right handed because it is sometimes hard for the average person to swith over. But since I am new to the sport I should shoot on my dominate eye side.

RE: Should I be shooting left handed?

I am somewhat ambidextrous and always shot a bow naturallyleft handed when I was a kid.
But I switched to right when I found out I was right eye dominate.
Now I wish I had never switched and just closed my right eye.
It feels much more comfortable for me to hold the weight of the bow with my stronger right arm and draw and shoot with my left.
