ARRRGGGG!!! Another arrow blasted!

OK, I should be happy that the bow is tuned and I'm getting back into the swing of things but I killed 2 more arrows today while practicing.

2 days ago I shattered knocks off 3 times during practice. Popped 1 knock the time before that. (I thought, "oh well, knocks are cheap. Good thing I got plenty of extras. And even though I retired2 shafts becausethey were looking a bit too scuffed and scraped from being hit by close groups, I figured I have got to have close to70 or 80 shots each on them so it wasjust wear and tear)

Now today I Robin Hooded 1 at 25yards. (hey. it's almost the farthest I can shoot in the back yard) Jammed one arrow into the other and split the carbonabout 5inches down the shaft. Then I hosed a shot and hit a shot-out spot on the cheap foam target I was using. (my fault there, I should have replaced it long ago and was too lazy to get out the new one)
The arrow went thru the hole and then buried intothe siding on the garage and hit some steel inside. Shattered the end of thearrow when the target point rammed the insert into the shaft.

This is going to get expensive if it keeps up. They may be only $60 a dozen for bare shaftsbut this can add up here. I am half considering having the draw weight on the bow reduced from 74# to 60# just to avoid any more shoot-thru's.

I don't know how anyone could afford to lose a few dozen target shafts a year in competition and practiceif it happens all of the time. Especially considering what some here are saying is a resonable price for target shafts! Not unless there was some serious $$$ in prizes to win that is.

Guess I just had to rant to blow off steam before ordering another dozen shafts to replace those fallen in battle.

Good shootin!

Try shootin at different spots now that you've got everything tuned up.

Thanks,

I know, I guess I just needed to vent since it's partly because I was being lazy and cheap, not getting out the other target block or getting a new big target for the back yard. I still need quite a bit more practice before I am consistent enough to do it all of the time but at least I can get into the groove after the first dozen or so shots. Still have to concentrate on form as I shoot, not to the point where it's automatic yet.
(but I got it in my head, 2 more months to get ready for deer. have to get consistent, first shot in the bull)

I shoot one arrow at a time. Shoot, get it , walk back and shoot again ;). This way I get my exercise and save arrows. Just an idea.

I shoot only 2-3 arrows at a spot, then move on.
With my yellowjacket, I get 9 spots per side, so the options are always there.
Still, I almost robinhooded one last week, blew the nock off it[:o]

Don't expect backing down to 60 pounds to solve the problem, you can still pass thru a shot out target and trust me, shafts still shatter at that poundage when they hit something their not supposed to :D

I don't even bother trying to group arrows within 25 yards anymore. It gets too darn expensive. lol

Buy a good bag target with 5 spots and shoot 1 arrow at each spot. That's what solved my problem. ;)

TO KEEP YOUR ARROWS SHOT A BLOCK TARGET OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT PUT ONE ARROW PER SQUARE. IF YOU HAVE ONLY ONE 3-D TARGET TAKE AND PLACE DOTS ALONG THE SIDE OF IT AND SHOT AT THEM. YOU WILL NEED TO LUBE YOUR ARROWS BEFORE DOING THIS BUT YOU WILL SAVE THEM.

I already have a dip tube for silicon for my arrows and yes, it was a bit help when I got it. I've been meaning to buy a 3-D target andhave a block I picked up a couple of weeks ago.I guess I just have it hard-wired in my head to shoot groups. It's what I do for target in firearms and it was what we shot in comp when I was learning archery as a kid. I really don't mind popping knocks off. I can get them for $3+ dozen from the one shop owner I know, just can't stand burning up arrows for stupid reasons.

Hey, at least you got 70 -80 shots out of them. I just bought a brand new dozen arrows and robin hooded one of them onit's maiden voyageout of the bow. One shot and it was destroyed -- and not on an animal! [:@]
