WHICH BOWTECH BOW FOR ME?
 

Bowtech sems to be getting alot of press here lately.Enough to get me interested.I used to be in the bow a year club,but have been shooting a mathews featherlite for a while now.I prefer a bow 36-38" ATA,not opposed to twin cams.I shot them for years without any real problems with cam timming.I want a bow that draws fairly smooth but stores a decent amount of energy to make up for my 28" draw and light poundage(60 # due to bum shoulder).I don't mind a short brace height as long as it's fairly shootable.Which Bowtech would you guys(or gals) recomend?I'd like to be able to shoot a 375-400 grain arrow in the 250 FPS range.

All the press is well deserved. BK II might work for you, the draw is smooth but the valley is pretty short. I would wait until the 03 bows come out and try the DC Patriot. I would think it would have a smooth draw and a little better valley than the BK II but I don't know. I would reccommend you go to a dealer and shoot them before you decide.

I will definitely do that.The feel of a bow is really important to me.Just looking for a starting point.Is a bow thats fast,accurate and fairly lite.That draws smooth but stores a lot of energy too much to ask for?:)

Sounds like the BK II is what you need. You really can't appreciate how fast it is until you shoot it, it stores quite a little energy, ie a really long power stroke, don't creep it. I think it weighs just under four pounds and is easy to shoot with the short brace height. I was worried about that but have had no trouble controlling mine, since I got properly spined arrows. I have the 6.5 inch brace height and it shoots like a dream. You better own a fletching jig if you are not shooting a five spot target.

So you're saying the BK2 has a short valley?The only thing i don't like about my Mathews is that if you creep just a little it'll try to let down on you.I like the fact that the short valley make it easy to have a consistent anchor,but I dont like the way it'll yank your arm off if you creep forward a little.How's the let off on the BK2?

I've got a Pro-38 that is 11 months old and has about 40,000 rounds through it - and I love it. I am a 27" draw and with a 375 gr arrow I'd guess you would get about 250fps. With my 375 gr arrow at 70#, 27in I got 284 consistantly.

All of this being said I purchased a Patriot just before the hunting season - it is quieter, less vibration, a tick (slight tick) slower, and just as accurate (as far as I can tell with the # of arrows I've shot).

If this is to be a hunting bow I'd look at the Patriot - for spot/3d I'd think harder about the 38.

I have nothing against the BK but don't have 1st hand knowledge on them - I know I love my 2 BT's!!!

The the let-off on the 2003 Dual cams is going to be 70% I believe?
If you do NOT like that feeling of the string wanting to take off if you creep a little......Don't creep. :) Seriously, the BowTech dual cams have a very nice back wall to shoot against, but like Mez said a short valley. Its defined, but short. If you creep on these cams they will wake you up in a HURRY.....you don't get the fastest speed in the industry with wussy cams. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
I don't have any experience obviously with the 2003 cams so I can't speak on them, but the 2002's do draw very smoothly.....especially in the 60# range. They stack up hard at the end, fall over into that short valley and have as nice of a back wall as you will feel in adual cam. Kinda feels like a cross between a dual cam and a hard single cam to me.....the draw cycle is unique and you will either, love it, hate it, or get used to it because you can kill dump trucks if you want to. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
I personally LOVE the feel of these cams and I shoot the 70# and the 60#r's. Thats why I'm getting the DC Patriot over the Single. Both cams are terrific performaers but I just really like these BowTech duals.
Some other models for you to consider other than the BKII in that 36-38&quot; range would be:

Pro40 Dual Cam......38&quot; ATA, 7.375&quot; Brace height, 329-337 (If you want a 38&quot; model These specs in my opinion doen't get much better for a blend of speed, forgiveness and stability)

Pro38 Single Cam....36.7&quot; ATA, 7.375&quot; Brace height, 306-314

Pro40 Single Cam.....38&quot; ATA, 7.75&quot; Brace height, 306-314

Or if you are willing to dip under that 36&quot; mark a bit.....I think you'll find the BEST of the bunch for a hunting bow in the Dual Cam Patriot.
This is going to be my hunting bow for 2003 as its already ordered.
Just mull these numbers over a bit:
34.9&quot; ATA (good mid length), 7.7&quot; Brace height (nice and forgiving), and 332-340fps (good god that speed at almost an 8&quot; brace height!<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>)
Combined with the improved cams, and other refinements , this is going to be the hunting bow that sets a benchmark for the industry in 2003. Count on it.

So you have some really cool options....there are terrific models in any style you could want, you just need to decide what ATA length and what cam/cams you are comfortable with. But the old adage still stands.....you might have one model in mind, but you'll still have to shoot them because chances are one is going to jump out at you and it might not be the one you THOUGHT you wanted.

I feel the need,the need for speed! 340 IBO with an 8' brace height.WTF? can you draw that thing without a winch:)I might have to check that one out.Ultimately when I shoot the right one I'll know.It's kinda like picking a woman.When you find the right one you know it.Thanks for the input fellas.

I can't speak for all the models. All I can say is I love my Patriot for 3D and hunting.

I love my patriot! The deer don't!! Patriot, Mighty Mite, Black Knight II (long brace height) or maybe the new Vertical Force Technology Extreme! These are all great bows!
