New arrows for ASA........
 

Ihave an uncontrollable fetish for arrows.

Just got some GT 30X Pro's, these bad boys are going to be like telephone poles flying down range. These are same diameter as a 2613. I am using them for ASA, I am hoping to be back on the 3D course in time for our state championship in July.I need a 565 grain arrow to slow the A7 down enough to be legal for ASA, I plan for it to be shooting about 283fps at 565 grains.This bow is abeast and isdefinitely the fastest long ATA bow I have ever shot.I figured if I have to go heavy, I might as well be able to cut some extra lines while I am at it, hopefully it isn't windy out......lol. The cool thing about ASA is that there are no arrow restrictions for hunter class, so I will fletching them w/ black blazers and 150 grain glue ins cut half an inch past the blade on my rest. They should be able to be used this winter for my indoor spots arrows as well. I will post up pics when they are all done.

So what are you guys shooting lately?

Im still shooting the same ol Easton C2 HD Green that ive been shooting with blaze orange wraps and blazers, two white, one off red at a right helical.
They are my Hunting, Target, and 3D arrows, you are very fortunate to be sponsored by a shop, huh!!!!

jeeze, i feel sorry for the fellows in your group who's arrows your going to demolish, not to mention knocking targets over with those boards.

You might want to recheck those numbers.......565grs at 283 is 100ft lbs of KE.[:-]:D

You shoot 30"/70# right?
Even at their bare string advertised IBO speed of approx 320fps that's 79ft lbs of KE......which means , based upon this starting point, if your arrows are really 565grs you can probably expect between 250-255 fps before a peep and nock set style.

Even if your arrows are 465grs 283fps is ALOT to ask even for a speedy bow like the Apex 7, as this would equate to about 83ft lbs of KE.
That's probably a little bit above what the bow can do best case with a bare string.

Oh my your right, I don't even know how I came up with 565. I have the old version of OnTarget2 that doesn't have the update for the A7, so I was fudging w/ all the numbers to come up with something of similar specs, and came up w/ 565 somehow. [:-] I am actually at 30 5/8" but that extra 5/8" isn't going add that much, thats for sure. Looks like I need to be around 450-460.

i'm wondering why you're going to shoot 70#. couldn't you shoot 60#, lighten your arrows, save your shoulders, and shorten your valley to get your holding wt? i'm just curious.

70 comes back pretty smooth for me, so I don't mind it for a 3D bow only, especially when you are only shooting an arrow every 15-20 minutes like in 3D. I would never shoot this much weight though in spots or for FITA, my Apex that is on the way for that has 60lb limbs. Also, at all the local shoots as well as IBO for the hunter class, regulations say 4" fletch and screw in points, and it is extremely difficult to get a line cutter style shaft (like a pro 22) down to the 300 grain area with a 4" fletch and a screw in point so that you are still getting speed at 60lbs. I also don't have the $$$ right now to set up a bow specifically for ASA events, otherwise I would have one that was at 60lbs. When I finally step up to open or mbr, I will drop down to a 60lb rig though, since it is easier to to get to 5gpp w/ short vanes and glue ins. For now though, I really like getting the speed and shooting around 5gpp.

Hunter class in the IBO shoots is approx 35 yards, and you will occasionally see them out to 38 yards or so. I know the difference between lets say 280fps and 310fps is marginal at best and wellunder an inch,but most of the time the difference between placing and not placing, or maybe taking first is a point or so. Will that extra .5 of an inch I get with that speed get me an occasional point once in a while? Yes, I am willing to bet it does. Add in the fact that everyone else I compete against takes advantage of the speed, and then it makes more sense.

I can also shoot it very well, and don't see any disadvantage, so why not? I know you will hear people say "fast miss, or slow hit" but that really doesn't apply here IMHO, you heard about the 5 spot game I shot the other night with this rig from 30 yards...........;).

At 64# I still work hard to slow my down, even with that "Fat Boy" string you made me Gib. I've slowed down to 288. I still need to shave down some, Ausey-Guy has made some calculations and maybe even add an inch to my arrows I can get down a little more for ASA.

I am shooting 70# limbs, and don't want to back out the limb bolt any more. I feel I am pushing it as it is. This bow has a lot of torque, and I want as much thread in the riser... I did order some competition limbs from Bowtech, but they shipped me 80# the first time, and then 70# the second, but this time, I just kept the new 70's on. I am really happy with the draw weight, just still very fast. I could be shooting 60# but my just got mad, and decided to keep the ones they shipped me..the second time... They were real nice, and wanted to correct the mistake but I declined the offer... My fault.

Well they came in at 490-491 grains w/ blazers, pin nocks, and 150 grain glue ins. They are cut 29 1/8" from throat of the nock to end of shaft. I sighted in today w/ pins for 22, 27, 32, and 37 yards. I am not sure exactly how fast these are gonna fly, but we will see on Tuesday. I think they are gonna be plenty fast enough for ASA though, the pin gaps are pretty tight.

Well I made 6 of them with the 150 grain glue ins (491 grains) and 6 of them with 100 grain glue ins (438 grains). The 491 grains arecoming out at 265fps, and the 438 grain ones are coming out at 278. Looks like I will be using the 438 grain arrows for ASA.
