Getting Started in Arrowbuilding
 

I would like to start at least fletching my own arrows and possibly cutting and putting in the inserts also.

Is there some type of kit which is available that will help get me started in this endeavor???

Will a Dremel work to cut them? Is a blowtorch necessary to heat the adhesive for the inserts?

Any advice in this area is appreciated...thanks!

This is a good topic. Santa is bringing me a bunch of arrow building things this Christmas. I figured I would just trial and error my builds. Is there anywhere that explains in detail proven arrow building techniques - website or book?

springgobbler, I think Bohning offers a kit with everything you need to get started. I do my own arrows now. It's a nice way to relax in front of the tube. It also saves me having to go to the shop for repairs. When replacing a single vane, it is installed exactly the same as the other two. Enjoy, it's one more step in the wonderful world of archery.
I'll let you know how the dremel tool works. I'm going to cut some shafts today with one, for the first time.

A quick note, if you are using the easton fletchings or the AAE fletchings with the fastset gel, DO NOT CLEAN the fletchings with alcohol. The fletchings have an activator applied to them at the factory to help set the glue faster.

I found that kit on the Bohning website...they have it for $50...looks like a good way to get my feet wet. They also have their cutting tool for $25...

How do you all set-up your cutting tools? Will a 2 x 4 with lengths marked work???

Anybody use crest wraps on the arrows. I found a print shop and bought some 2mill self adhesive butt rolls for about $5, enought to do about 1000 arrows.

While they adhere well to the arrow it is a pain to strip it off the arrow when you have to refletch it. Just wondering if anyone has any tips to remove the wraps.
