The ultimate arrow for hunting will vary with what you're hunting. The ideal set up for rabbits is different from whitetails, which is different from Cape Buffalo.

In gerneral, strive for a high FOC, make sure the spine is adequately stiff, put a quality fixed blade broadhead on it and fletch it with helically placed feathers. The heavier the game, the heavier the arrow should be. The lower your K.E., the heavier the arrow should be. If in doubt, choose a heavier arrow.

It helps if you can spine tune your arrows, especially on the cheaper models.

29 1/2" Gold tip XT 7595, 100 grain magnus nuge blade broadhead, 3 4" tru-flite feathers, and easton nocks. These things will shoot through a brick wall and still be ready to go.

I'd like to have a bunch of different ones. I wish gt's came with a real slick finish though. As it is I polish the black ones with wax and #0000 steel wool. They pull fairly quiet then. My shafts fly great with thunderheads. They don't seem to want to quit once sent out. They claim they fly better than points and I'd be one to agree with them.

30.245 inch Easton Excel 340s...tub tested for spine and cut from both ends for straightness.

4 inch orange and black Duravanes with exactly2.1 grains of glue per fletch.

Standard Easton inserts and nocks which are individually weighed for consistancy and tooth-tested for strength.

RPG 100 grain field points for practice and....

...100 grain 3 blade Rocket Steelhead 100swith individually sharpened bladesand a modified, threaded ferrule for hunting.

Total arrow weight for hunting is 438.57 grains.

...dunno the KE numbers as I haven't chronoed the bow. Too happy with how it is shooting to go that route.

Cost...$59.99 a dozen.

Look on the face of the first person that tries to bite down on an insert....

....priceless.

;)

My first big game hunt of this year will be for black bear in late August. My arrows will be 27" Beman BlackMax 500 with a 100gr Slick Trick and 3 Blazer vanes and a white 3" wrap. Total weight is 389 grs and flies at 272 fps out of my Equalizer. I may switch over to my Gold Tip XT 3555 for later deer hunting when a longer shot is possible.

Coug,

My response was pretty much tongue in cheek for those of you that didn't figure that out. My apologies for going overboard but I find it amusing the extent that some folks will go to find that "perfect dozen" of arrows. :)

The arrow size, approximate total weight, fletching configuration and broadhead style is accurate. ;)

I use 29.25" Gold Tip Camo XT's, 4" All-White Feathers, standard inserts and nocks, tipped with 100 gr Slick Trick. It weighs in at 386 grains and shoots 306 fps (from my bow anyway). I may switch to vanes this year, just haven't made up my mind yet.
