RE: lack of penetration
Could be many variables involved. Was this your only deer you didn't pass thru or only deer you've shot? When you speaking passthru, are you refering arrow in the dirt behind the animal or simply an exit hole?
What is the speed of your arrow? What does your arrow weigh? This will assist in configuring your KE. Did you hit bone or shoulder? Was the animal moving, ie dropping, tensing etc? Even the hottest bows won't get passthrus from time to time.....when I shot my bull elk, I blew through him and the arrowed layed another 20 yards passed him at 33 yards, I came home from that trip and the first deer I took was a doe that I didn't pass thru and this was with 70 some ftlbs of KE....again, many variables. And did you recover the animal? Your broadhead weight is fine, I don't personally know the configuration with the arrows your refering to to know the weight of said arrows. |

Try a 100 grain 2 blade magnus stinger , one of if not the best penitrating head out there on game animals . |
RE: lack of penetration
As Rob said there are lots of variables. Someone is going to say "Try this broadhead or try that broadhead". The broadhead is not the problem so long as it is sharp. What can play a major roll is arrow flight. How well are your arrows flying? If the arrow is wagging around this will reduce penetraion a bunch.
What you can do is super-tune your equipment so that the arrow is flying true. This puts all that KE stright behind the head so maintain as much momentum as is possible. Then you have to make a good shot in an area without heavy bone. In most cases that's about all you can do. The rest is up to the animal. |
