Rigging QAD Rest to the 2006 BowTechs
 

I had a productive weekend so far. Some of you were asking about rigging the Quality Archery Design (QAD) drop away rest to the cable slide, so that is exactly what I tested today among other things.

To save you all some time, here is what I learned:

First off, my cable slide has a hole on the bottom side, if yours doesn’t you should consider getting one that does. This hole allows you to easily slide the launcher arm cord/cable right through it. I found that with launcher arm laying flat on bow shelf (forks forward) and holding cord taunt, you should have a knot tied in 5/16 to 3/8 of an inch past cable slide hole (side closest to the shooter). This is the sweet spot for this rest. If you favor the shorter end of draw length then start with the 5/16 inch length. If you have a longer draw length, start with the 3/8 inch length. For those of you who don’t or can’t measure that distance, just get a 5/16 or 3/8 inch wrench out of your tool box and use it as a guide. Put one inboard side of wrench wall to back side of cable slide hole and the other inboard side of wrench wall should be right over the location of knot.

In regards to performance I placed lipstick all over the launcher arm and shot over 100 arrows today with light colored fletching. Only 1 time did I get very light amount of lipstick transferred over to fletching and that was with knot contacting back side of cable slide hole (meaning no 5/16 or 3/8 inch gap as stated above). All other shots demonstrated no fletching contact whatsoever.

This is now my preferred way to rig the QAD rest. It has worked great today and has several advantages such as a very short cord that is less likely to catch on brush while ground stalking. Furthermore, every time you want to twist your cables for fine tuning bow, it doesn’t wrap launcher arm cable around down buss cable; which causes the tuner to have to retune the QAD rest.

Off the topic here but what kind of performance are you getting out of your OG? I think it is a very under rated sleeper bow in the Bowtech lineup. It should be an awesome rig.

At 60 pounds and 29 inch draw, my Old Glory is doing 295 fps with a 301.4 grain arrow and 265 fps with a 393 grain arrow. This is with the smooth mods,,,, and I DO mean smooth;)

Heere's the front view, it's the thing that kinda goes around the scope body. The scope is an ATC with their 6X lense and it's very clear through the small Fletcher Tru Peep. The sight is The System by Davis, you can go from a scope to pins in about 15 seconds;)

284-285 fps with 443 grain arrows.
Speed cams installed
"D" loop
22 grain peep sight including insert.
Still shooting 3 inch groups at 60 yards (with 125 grain tips installed).

MMD, If you are shooting 3 inch groups with your set up at 60 yards you need to start making a living in the the archery game. Head for Vegas and don't look back.....:):D;)

YA I had to clarify that on another post...when I say groups I'm talking 5 shot groups not 12. That's why I said beforeit has got to be all about the equipment because I have not been doing this long enough to be a great shot. I was hoping for 6-7 inch groups and I ended up with 3 inch groups.

My wife and father in law were there also and couldn't believe it. The two guys I hunt with have been shooting for 3-4 years and they both said no way. I figured someday somebody on here would say BS to 3 inch groups, but I figured that I'll just type out what I shot and if nobody believes it, then that just shows me I've got all my details dialed in. I'm used to shooting my rifle at .400 to .500 5 shot groups at 100 yards, so I didn't even know 3 inch 5 shot groups were that good, until just the other day.

Does accuracy get better with target arrows? Maybe I should join a league.

when i think about a group now, its from outer diameter of the arrows farthest away from eachother. i used to measure from the center out, and if all were within 3" of the center i considered it a 3" group - now i realize that was a 6" group.
