draw weight

What do you have your bow set to and what do you hunt? I hunt white tail with my bow set to 65 lbs.
Just ready to order my new bow in the 50 to 60 lb weight range, I think........

Years ago I used to shoot mid 50's when bows only had about 20% letoff. As times passed and letoff became greater I eased into the upper 60's. The weight and vibration took it's toll over the years with the resultant cotizone shots, tennis elbow and such. I've become a lot wiser now and my testosterone levels have dwindled; bows have become much more efficient producing higher speeds with less weight. To that end I normally shoot between 53# and 58# now with pseeds somewhere between 250fps and 280fps, the 280 coming from my Martin SlayR set at 53# and 27" draw. Why pull more than is necessary to get the job done?

My Allegiance is set at 66lbs, but will probably come down to low 60's this summer. I just have no need for a bow much over 60 for PA Whitetail. If I decide to chase bigger game such as elk or moose, then yeah, I'll turn up the weight. But for Whitetails and even Black Bear for that matter, 60lbs will blow right through with ease.

Reflex Super Slam set to 60#. Elk, mulies, moose, bear, grouse, antelope, etc. Axis with 100 gr. 27" draw. Have not cronoed it, but it is noticably faster than my last PSE bow. And I get superior penetration in our 3-D shoots.

I shoot at 70 lbs. during the season, but routinely lower it to 65 throughout the spring and summer to work on form. Steadily increasing it by hunting season.
