Arrow flight
My Dad's bow is a hoyt cam and 1/2 50-60#. He's been having trouble with grouping. Some good some not so good. I suspected it might be the shooter not the bow that was the issue. He is kinda new to Archery.
Well he did have a few issues with his sight. First of all hehad some junk sight on it and it was always coming loose. I put my old Copper John on it and I am getting good results. However it appears to me that the arrow kicks virtually sideways halfway to the target (20 Yards) and then straightens out and hits dead square. So I figured if this was indeed happening, that at 10 yards the arrow would not hit square. But I was wrong, and didn't notice the arrow kicking at this yardage. Perhaps it was just the fact that I was shooting outdoorson a quite windy day...I dunno. What else would cause the kick that i'm seeing, being that it still hits accurately? |
RE: Arrow flight
arrow rest...the fletchings hitting whatever kind of rest it is...assuming its not a whisker bisquit
|
RE: Arrow flight
That would be my guess also is the arrow rest. Check the fletching for any marks.

RE: Arrow flight
hmm 2 prong type rest. No helical in the vanes? Can't imagine it touching. I'll check though thanks.

RE: Arrow flight
these guys i shoot with sometimes - they're real good, but one will get behind the other with those $1500 binoculars and watch him shoot from 50 or 60 yards and look for that exact thing. i think its how they pick their arrows for 3d tourneys - the ones that don't do that.

RE: Arrow flight
Fletching contact can cause this,so can spine but never "TUNE" on a windy day.The wind will definately cause your arrow to kick, among other things.[:@]
I am very fortunate to have an indoor range that I can shoot out to 50 yards. |
RE: Arrow flight
Finger release, or mechanical?
Has the bow been "set-up"? Centerline, knock set, that kind of thing. Both cam's in tune? All can contribute, since you're sure the fletchings are not hitting anything upon release. And oh yeah . . . It's O.K. to shoot outdoors in the wind, you just need to stand closer! (lol) |
