Which arrow do you like????
This will probably start a firefall, but what arrow would y'all recomend?
Gear: Reflex Super Slam, 60lbs, 28.5" draw Whisker Biscuit Copper John 4 pin Been using the Axis ST 400's but am told they have too weak a spine. Primary use: big game. Elk, Mulies, Bear, Antelope, and Moose (if I ever draw). BUT! I got a membership to the local Archery club for Xmas and would like to do some competion shooting ~ 3D, target, etc. It was recommended to go to the Axis 340's, but since I have to buy new arrows anyway, what's out there that you guys would recommend? |
RE: Which arrow do you like????
I like Goldtips the prohunter or the xt's in the 5575 weight for your setup. The prohunters are .001 and the xt's are .003

RE: Which arrow do you like????
In your other thread you state your arrows are 29" long.At 28 1/2 you should be able to shoot a shorter arrow and bring the spine back in for you.You may be able tocut the 400's to 27" and be righ on spine and stick with the 65 pounds.
Beyond that,I likeACC's but you need to know what poundage ou plan on sticking with and what arrow length you need before a sizecan be determined.Somewhere in the 3-49 range most likely. |
RE: Which arrow do you like????
I kept the arrows at 29" so there was good clearance for any broadhead I may use . . . like the Guillotine.

RE: Which arrow do you like????
Also, I really like the Axis ST's with the small diameter and HIT. I know I would be happy with the 340's, just wondering what might be out there that might be better than a pocket on a shirt. (Did I see right . . . ACC's for over $200.00 & $300.00?!)

RE: Which arrow do you like????
Easton XX-78 Super Slams tipped with 125 gr. Thunderheads.

RE: Which arrow do you like????
I really dont see how a 400 spine arrow is underspined for your set up. It should be perfect at 29 inches with a head of 100 grains. 125 should be fine too. If you were really concerned, and using a 125 head, cut the arrow to 28 inches. I shoot a 28.5 allegiance at 80 lbs and shoot a 28 inch 340 spined arrow with a 100 grain tip very well. I dont see that a 340 spined arrow is needed out of a 60 lb set up at 28.5. You would be over spined.

RE: Which arrow do you like????
340's won't make him overspined at all. The chart shows 340's for 65 pounds at that arrow length. Only 5 pounds puts him in a different spine class! I always recommend going to the stiffer spine when you're hanging right on the edge like that.Even moresoif talking broadhead arrows. And, who knows? game4lunch justmight decide to crank up the draw weight for elk and moose.
For those 400's, it'd be fine to shorten them and use them for 3D. |
RE: Which arrow do you like????
I'm going to leave the draw weight at 60#.
I'm gong to the range today to see if I get better results. If not, I'm heading to the pro shop for answers / resolutions. |
RE: Which arrow do you like????
ACC's are not that expensive here. They cost $135.00 (fletched and cut)at my shop, unless they have gone up recently.ACC's are high but worth it.;)
Are you sure you didn't look at ACE's.They are that high. But man are they awesome or targets.[:o] |
