RE: Feathers or Vanes
Feathers all the way!

RE: Feathers or Vanes
I second that. I'll never shoot another vane... unless it's on someone else's arrow.
|
RE: Feathers or Vanes
I shoot vanes, but would like to shoot feathers. Anyone know good feathers to and size to shoot through a wisker biscut?
Sorry to thread jack. |
RE: Feathers or Vanes
Try a seach... millions of tops on this lol;)

RE: Feathers or Vanes
feathers...
|
RE: Feathers or Vanes
For my compound, which I really don't shoot much, I prefer vanes. On my longbow, feathers.
|
RE: Feathers or Vanes
I still shoot vanes on the standard XX75 aluminum arrows. I posted on this topic once before about the curiosities of feathers and what I would gain from trying an XX78 Super Slam with feathers. I recall Arthur P replying and saying that I wouldn't gain much if anything, due to my heavy old PSE bow with the 2315 aluminum arrows. It's setup to shoot XX75 2315's and is perfectly accurate, so I don't mess with it. "If it ain't broke - don't fix it..." ;)

RE: Feathers or Vanes

RE: Feathers or Vanes
Another for feathers.

RE: Feathers or Vanes
Feathers. Tru flite, not a big gateway fan, the bases arent as consistant as tru-flite

RE: Feathers or Vanes
I had a dozen fleched recently (6 feather and 6 blazers) and found my feathers and blazers hitting in the same place out to 40 yards. If it is dry I hunt with the feathers if it is wet I use the blazers. The group sizes are about the same but the feathers seem to be a little more forgiving if I make a mistake.

RE: Feathers or Vanes
So let me ask a question in return,...Whats so great about feathers that you guys are all hands down???
|
RE: Feathers or Vanes
This season I am back to hunting with feathers. Just a little more forgiving than vanes......for me.
|
RE: Feathers or Vanes
Vanes on my XX78's. On my setup, the fly better, especially when wet.
|
RE: Feathers or Vanes
I'm using vanes.

RE: Feathers or Vanes
I found the same results as Scott with feathers vs Blazers. I have a 4 arow quiver and carry 2 of each. If I have also found feathers to be a bit more forgiving with my setup. I did also do an experiment this season and used the Gateway waterproofing powder. I was hunting in the rain one afternoon and the feathers stayed dry. It was a steady soaking rain, so believe me, we all got wet, and the feathers looked no worse for wear. I still carry 2 Blazer fletched arrows, but I always grab my 4" feather arrows first.
Guys, bottom line, if you like what you have, don't change. If you are curious, spend a few bucks and fletch a few up with feathers and try for yourself. I honestly believe if you do try them, you will be pleasantly surprised and the benefits of feathers. Then, when you are sold on them, watch ebay for good deals, I found a bunch last fall for a song. Have fun, JMAC ORIGINAL: Scott Gags I had a dozen fleched recently (6 feather and 6 blazers) and found my feathers and blazers hitting in the same place out to 40 yards. If it is dry I hunt with the feathers if it is wet I use the blazers. The group sizes are about the same but the feathers seem to be a little more forgiving if I make a mistake. |
RE: Feathers or Vanes
vanes.
|
RE: Feathers or Vanes
feathers this year, probably vanes next year i am never content, just one of my many issues.;)
|
RE: Feathers or Vanes
I feel each has it's place.
Feathers seem to be best for shooting in long bows and recurves. vanes work best at higher speeds of compounds. IMO:eek: |
RE: Feathers or Vanes
this is such a funny topic i just love it . remember a few weeks ago me and arther p got in a big to do over vanes and feathers. just search for "and now i have a question" you will get a good read. both sides of this debate are very valid .both have drawbacks and advantages. ultimately you must decide . my suggestion is get an arizona e-z fletch and buy some feathers and vanes some glue and a couple of arrows and test them for your self . we all will give you sage advice on what we prefer but you are not going to be hunting with our setups. so shoot a bunch of arrows and let me know what you decided. by the way i prefer vanes.

RE: Feathers or Vanes
feathers have so much more forgiveness in them if thay just tap a twig thay will now trow the hole arrow off 10 feet
