Guidance Please - Hoyt Vortec

I am considering purchasing a used Hoyt Vortec with a single cam from a friend of my brothers. The fact that Hoyt no longer makes a single cam bow concerns me. I would appreciate any comments about the bow from anyone that owns or has owned one of these bows. Is it fast, quiet, easy to tune, etc. I would also appreciate any thoughts on what I should offer for the bow if I decide to buy it. The bow comes only with a quick tune rest and a decent site.

I had a single cam Vortec. I believe it was a 2001 model. It was a pain to tune and I never shot it very good, relative to some other bows I have had. Who knows, maybe it was just me. I can't recall which cam it had. They only made the Vortec a year or 2.

That is my $.02

There was nothing inherently wrong with Hoyt singlecams. To this day, many prefer them for several reasons. Hoyt made a decision to go with all hybrid cams. To me, this is more of a marketing decision than one designed to help hunters. There is no reason you can't tune the singlecam to shoot your broadheads to where you're aiming at release. My only recommendation on single cams is to shoot the highest quality string and cable. I prefer custom made Ultracam strings. They will not creep when made properly, which will help keep your single cam in tune.

The Hoyts with the Cam and a half are nothing more than the Darton cams which I shoot. Smooth drawing, great shooting bows. If ya'll remember how in the past few years the Mmmmmmmmmm... Mmmmmmmmmm.... Mmmmmmmmmmmm... (you know folks. I can't say that swear word[8D]) ANYWAY, they always were publishing their list of records and winners. Well here's the latest from one of my latest magazines. Can't say it's all hype and marketing. They tune great and stay there if you use good quality strings and cables.
