And now you see why I've never bought into all the hype and replaced my MQ-1. Three shots through the chrono at 275, 276 and 276.

I would think you just want to make sure that you have good kinetic energy. You want to put something behind it.

My first bow kill was with an old bear whitetail 2 modified to fit me when i was twelve . It had a poundage of 30 to 45 . I killed my first deer with it at probably around 40# shootin well under 200fps . I made a 30 yard shot the deer ran 40yards and expired . Accuracy is the most important thing .

I now have a pse fireflite , at 62 pounds im shooting 238fps .

Your buddy is getting approx 70 LBS/KE with a 28" draw lenght at 68 pounds draw weight, not to mention kisser, string suppressor ect. That is perfectly normal. If he wants speed buy CX 300s and shoot 85 grain spitfires and he will be just under 300.

It is very simple speed does not matter period. Unversity of Wis Prof did a study. If you are shooting 200 FPS and a deer jump your string. The arrow would have to go over 700 fps to hit the deer. No matter if you shoot 200 or 300 the deer can still jump the string. Accuacy,Quiet, and enough Kentic energy are most important in my book.
BowTech Pro 40 240 fps 27 inch draw 430 grain arrow. All three deer last year had no idea what hit them. Tell your friend he is fine and to lighten up!!

The draw length, lb draw, arrow weight are all factors that will affect speed.

I do love speed that is why i shoot a BOWTECH PATRIOT . an arrow that travels at 300 fps and is 350 grns has more energy than the same arrow at 255 fps. But niether are any good if you are not accurate. I say 255 is very acceptable for his set up. I like speed because i dont have to be faster than sound just faster than the deers reaction to that sound but 255 is fast enough. if he wanted a speed bow he should have baught a BOWTECH . I shoot a 350 grain cx3d select at 307 fps at 29 in. draw and 74 lbs. but if i couldnt hit with it i would trade it for a 200fps bow that was a tac driver.

Just remember, the more speed the worse a mistake is amplified. I don't think my bow will go 260-270, but it has a high let off I can hold all day and it is very quiet. Has never let me down.

RE: How much speed is enuff???

I can't remember for sure what my bow is at for speed it is either 236 or 256. And I wish it was faster than it is, there is something about shooting my targets at 40 yards an being able to see my arrows drop in flight that makes me [:@]

What could a guy expect shooting 27.5" Carbon Express 4560s with a 28" draw length?
