Default CHECK THIS OUT!! "IRON OUT" YOUR VANES!

Sick of fletching arrows after your vanes become worn and wrinkled? I discovered this eariler tonight and thought I'd share if no one's talked about it before. Many of my Quikspins were wrinkled via rest contact/tight groupings, etc. So about 5 inches under thelow spot(s)of the"waves" for a brief second or two I held acigarette lighter and waved it quickly. REAL QUICK LIKE, as too much heatwill obviously melt them. But for just a second, and witha quick front-to-back stroke, tah-dah!Pretty well straightened out. There yougo, no more re-fletchingbecauseyour vanes are looking worn out. (As for holes in vanes, probably oughta use a jig and a new vane, duh.)Any thoughts?

Trapper, I've always used a hairdryer myself and they straightened right out. I guess it depends on how bad they are wrinkled and what type of vanes they are.

I have used a stove top and a hair dryer, the lighter seems like a quick fix in the field on a 3-d tournament.

When I heard of this I used my heat gun and it worked great.

Hmm, a lighter you say? I have some worn out vanes that I was going to refletch but I will give the lighter trick a whirl when I am down at the shop later today.

THE TOASTER??? Wow. I guess it makes sense no matter what you use, if friction(heat) distorts 'em, heat can also bring 'em back.

The best way I found to straighten my vanes was to boil some water and stick the fletched end in the water for a few short seconds. Something with the boiling water and the heat straightens them out almost perfectly.
