Finally Figured out my problem

Some of you may recall that I had several posts here in the past few weeks whining about not being able to shoot a group with my broadheads out of my new switchback. Well, last night I was at the shop again, and the guy set it up just right, and said F**K paper tuning, I don't wast my time on it with these new bows...and he explained why. Well I got home and had the exact same problem. Well almost, The groups were tighter, but I was shooting with the Lumenoks, and I could clearly see that the arrow was not flying anywhere near straight. The arrows I am using are off of my old bow, they are CX 300 hunters, and are fairly short, the broadhead only clears the rest by about a half inch at full draw. I decided they must be acting too stiff being that short. I tried some of my buddies 30" arrows, but they were CX400's. They hit and grouped very well, but they had the same, spiral type flight. After I packed everything upI remembered that my dad has some 29" CX300's for his Mathews. I grabbed some of his arrows and set them up with my lumenoks and broadheads. I shot them a few times and BINGO! They fley perfect! They hit exactly where my field points hit too! WOOOHOOO! Its about time! The season is 8 days away, I was getting nervous! I can't believe that there is that much ofa difference between my 27" CX 300 Hunters, and my dads 29" CX 300's.

Wonder if the shorter ones would work without the lumenocks. what does an lumenok weigh anyway????

I believe the Lumenoks are 22 grains?????

I was used them most of the year without the lumenoks and it didn't really make a dif.

I had the same problem with my Switchback. I could not shoot a tight pattern. The local pro here told me to go to a 125 gr tip instead of the 100s. What adifference 25grs made. I'm now shooting consistent 3 in groups at 30yds

I found Switchbacks DEF don't like a stiff arrow......generally I would shoot CX300s or a .340 class spine with my setup...but w/ the SB, .400s were the ticket.

I read an add yeasterday stating they " only add 22 grains to the arrow".
Is that 22 grains ABOVE the weight of the original nock they replaced??

If so your looking at a lot of asswieght[8D].

Dave,

22 grains total weight. About 10 grains heavier than a standard nock. To me not worth the money or the FOC change. I don't need to see my arrow fly. I know where it went--right where the sight was when the bow went off.

The website for the Luminocks says 22 grains but I weighed them and I get 32-34 grains. That is a lot of weight on the back of an arrow. A normal nock weighs about 11 grains.

Superarcher, I have some old CX300's cut to 28" that I'll let go real cheap if you think they will work.

Do you have the rest set so the center of the arrow is 13/16" from the riser???

Does your arrow perfectly bisect the berger hole???

Is your nock and rest set so your arrow is dead level???

Have you set your Idler lean???

Nock an arrow as if you were going to shoot and draw back like you normally would....While trying to keep form, look up at the idler wheel and see if the string is tracking perfectly straight down the idler wheel....If not you are torguing the bow or you need to set Idler lean Or a combo of both.

The Switchback does seem to like weaker spined arrows....I am shooting 29" Maxima 250's and they shoot terriffic.

how do you set idler lean. i niticed my idler leanswhile in the rested position but levels out some at full draw. its not a split limb design and i see no adjustments for this

You want the idler to be straight at full draw with the string tracking perfectly straight....In order to adjust this you needto press thebow and then twist one side of the yoke...The yoke is where the cable is split and attaches to the idlers axles.
