Chrono'd the Switchback today...

Here's the particulars:
Mathews Switchback
26" draw/ 71 lb draw weight
Whisker Biscuit
only string accessories are super string leeches and D-loop

shooting Goldtip 5575's at 25.5"
fletched with 3 Blazer vanes
125 gr field tips
overall weight 370 gr/ 13.5% F.O.C.

shot 5 arrows twice each for a total of ten shots

Results:
Average velocity: 253.1 fps

And how short are your A/C/Cs? That's awfully light for a 3-49 with vanes and a 100 grain tip. Mine at 27.5-28" generally run in the 385 grain range w/ duras or arizonas.

Mowtown , I think you arrow weight is wrong , you should be at around 400 grains with a 29 inch 349 ,vanes ,and 100grain tips . The reason I responded is that is the arrow I shoot but with vanes, and Im at 375 grains .

He is shooting blazers which are quite light compared to most vanes. He could be shaving 10-15 grains easily with those vanes.

His post says Duravanes?....

Blazers weigh about 9 grains less for 3 compared to AAE/Duras, BTW

Here here let me settle this here debate. 26 and 3/4 arrows 71 # limbs. 4 inch dura vanes. Unless my meter is off the arrow weight is as posted.

Jeff are those blazers that much lighter where you can get app. 20 fps faster with your switchback?

zac76156 09-06-2005 02:38 PM

RE: Chrono'd the Switchback today...

MOTOWN, when I went from duravanes to blazers I picked up +/- 5 fps, some of which was due to the reduction in weight and some was due to less friction with the biscuit...

RE: Chrono'd the Switchback today...

26" that explains it , are you shooting an overdraw ?

MOTOWNHONKEY 09-06-2005 04:27 PM

RE: Chrono'd the Switchback today...

Heh..nope...:D

your bow is def slow...I've shot 3 diff 28.5's and they all were within a couple FPS of each other...you DO have to get that cam tining dead on on SB to get the speed, 10 FPS if the cam is outta whack wouldn;'t surprise me...but, you should be shooting close to 300 w/ that light of an arrow...And I assume you have the limbs maxed?

How do you adjust the cam timing on a Switchback? I thought that wasn't an issue on a single cam bow. Little do I know, and I own a Switchback. How much do the string leeches slow down the arrow?
Thanks

RE: Chrono'd the Switchback today...

Its not really cam timing....It's more like cam orientation. It's not as critical as keeping the ATA and the Brace height in spec. Depending on which way the cam is off you need to put some twist in the cable or string.

JeffB 09-08-2005 01:04 PM

RE: Chrono'd the Switchback today...

Actually it really *is* cam timing.

Problem is mostdumbass bowshop workersstarted using the incorrect term of "timing" when they meant "synchronization", years and years ago.....

Look up the AMO/ATA definition.

*All*cam systems have to be timed..One cams have nothing to be *synchronized* with (no other cam) and that was thier claim to fame.

You'll notice Mathews always uses the correct term of "synch" in their marketing. Most other companies do not, either out of ignorance, or because they don't want to confuse people becausethe masses areonly familiar with the incorrect terminology (propogated by said people who don't know the correct terminology)

Sorry, but this has always been a pet peeve of mine...nothin personal :D
