Cable and string replacment
How often should one replace strings and cables? Minestill look goodafter 3 years. But I understand they stretch out over the years.

RE: Cable and string replacment
I didn't change my string on my old bow for 3 years and one day it just snapped! Dangerouso! It also looked fine and I kept it waxed!

RE: Cable and string replacment
mine looked fine after 4 years and that was with no waxing, anyway before last season proshop guy told me to change it so i did, after 7 weeks of hunting and waxingit looked 100x worse than the original. so this spring i went to another shop and had another put on, shoots as good as new so i'll see how it holds up. when i asked the guy with the new string wtf with the old one he told me it was a cheaper dacron material, and said the new one was something like 4150 or something. not knowingwhat that meant he told me it had a much higher tensil strength. didn't know there was that much diff. between strings

RE: Cable and string replacment
This is a pet peeve of mine so forgive me. Every year we get bows in right before season with the strings broken in two (one came in tonight in fact) and usually we're told they're 4-6 years old. My thinking is how much is your health/life/hunt worth? If your string breaks there's no telling what or who will get hurt and how seriously. That said, I make my own so change them every year. I know not everyone makes their own and it can be an added expense but I would recommend changeing them at least every other year depending on the amount of shooting you do.

RE: Cable and string replacment
Hi there, it's not a bad idea to change often. But what I do is carry an extra string and cable with me. I have a good portable bow press that works great in the field. I have had bow strings break when they were less than a year old and had had them last for several years. It's all about time, money and confidence in your equipment. And yes, wax that string.
