Paper tuning

How far from the paper should you shoot from?

I start at six feet and once I get bullet holes I'll shoot at 10 yards and 20 yards.

I tune at 3', 8', and 15'. once I get bullet holes at these ranges I check my accuracy at these ranges, as well as my broadhead flight. Then I make adjustments as needed.

Please forgive my ignorance. I assume the purpose of paper tuning is to make sure your arrow is flying straight. If it is not how do you correct it so that putting bullet holes through the paper.
