String loop fails
#41
I've never used a loop and after reading this thread I don't think I ever will. Just one more thing to fail. The quote about finding your arrow 200 yards later is scary too.

I've never had one fail, but like all equipment you need to remember to check it out before use to make sure it still looks good, any sign of wear or slipping and have it replaced!

No string loop failures for me. Len taught me to do it almost exactly how bigbulls does it.
The key is to not touch the melted end until it has cooled. If you try to flatten it, you will make it weaker since you push the hot strands apart. It's a bit of an art to getting good balls on the end, but if you buy the loop material in long lengths, it is easy enough to start over.

tied my own the first time and thought for sure, but never had one slip. Someplace I have where it shows to put a knot in the ends and then loop it on the string, keeps them from pulling through.

How many of you out there had one fail, meaning the knot pulled through and you may have punch yourself in the face and had an arrow sail away. I shot about 200 arrows through my new switchback when it happened. This is my first experience with the sting loop. I don't want this happening when drawing on a big buck. Was my bow shop just incompetent or are they known to fail.

wow, i go a couple thousand shots without replacing mine, maybe more. it all depends on the release i'm using.

obviously whoever turned you onto a loop forgot to tell you that you are supposed to change the loop with a new one about every 60 to 100 arrow shots. this practice will generally prevent any failures.

I think that HDW was joking!
