Havoctec too short
I'm new here and have a question about the Hoyt Havoctec. My draw length is 30.5" and I was wondering if the 31.5" axle to axle on the havoctec would be a problem as in forgivness, accuracy, nok pinch as I shoot with the release off of the string. Would only use this bow for hunting.

OR-Brian, with your draw length and the short ATA of the HavocTec, I'd definately recommend a string loop too eliminate the nock pinch. Your longer draw and the ATA design of a short bow creats a hard angle at full draw.
Now the brace height of the HavocTec is going to aid you in the forgiveness catagory but yes, it will be less forgiving than a bow of equal brace height and longer ATA. The accuracy catagory is up to you practicing and having good form, especially at odd positions such as out of a treestand. Remember to keep your form and bend at the waist in all directions.
The HavocTec can be just as accurate as any bow on the market in the hands of the right shooter. That has to be for you to decide and make happen.

I tend to agree with Rob stated but would also like to add that it is entirely possible for you to get decent accuracy out of some of the short bows without utilizing a string loop, even if you have a long draw length. I have a 31 inch draw length and I have owned/shot several short bows including the Havoctec, Parker UL31, Epic Extreme, G2 and one or two others. I never had a problem with accuracy without utilizing a string loop. Though, to be on the safe side, I would recommend what Rob stated for most folks.
Now, since we are on the topic of Hoyt and short bows....I really think Hoyt should come out with a 34 incher this year...I really do...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Havoctec too short
Frank: Hoyt does make a 34" ATA. It's the HavocTec with the ZR-200 limbs. Many people don't realize this and I've had to explain it to a lot of customers.
I've always contended short ATA for shorter draw lengths and longer ATA for longer draw lengths. It's really a matter of comfort in shooting for varying archers' draw lengths. Comfort will aid in being more confident and accurate.
Yes, the contrary can be done by good shooters; but, aren't we or shouldn't we be concerned about the average shooter on the forums? I know I always try to keep the average shooter in mind when giving advice. Not saying that you guys don't - just stating my position.
In this particular situation, I would strongly recommend a string loop. Severe arrow pinch could cause the arrow to fall off the string at just the moment that you go to pull the trigger and cause a dry-fire. Been there, done that.

..and I was familiar with the Havoctec ZR200 version of the Havoctec.....but was just hopin' that Hoyt would come out with an XT2000 34 inch TEC bow but with some new cams or something-or-other.
Glad to see you postin' again my friend...<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>
