Broadheads again... (I can't believe this)....
 

Okay, first and foremost, let me go on record and say I WAS WRONG!!! [:-]

You know all the posts and reply posts of mine going on and on about the 100gr Magnus Stinger 4 blade broadhead. I was praising it and how well it flew and how I can't believe it because I shoot 125gr field tips and 125gr Slick Tricks. Why did the 100gr Stingers fly the same even though they're 25 grains lighter.

Paul Mohr and others have replied in great detail that something is just not right... You should always shoot the same grain broadheads as field tips. I just shrugged it off and kept on practicing and not thinking about it.

In regards to my other thread about "Butch's old bow before and after", since the bowshop put on new string leeches, a new S-coil stablizer, and tweaked the bow a little bit, it is amazingly quiet now. I have just been practicing with 125gr field tips and not having any problems at all.

Now, after dinner, I decided to play with the 125gr Slick Tricks and the 100gr Magnus Stingers, with the horribly shot up Black Hole target. [Bear in mind everyone, I have not shot any broadheads at all, since my bow was tweaked at the bow shop.] Well, now I have some interesting results to post - which got me really irritated and feeling totally foolish (going with 100 grain vs sticking with 125 grain).

Same old PSE bow with XX75 2315 arrows:
125 grain field tips ---- dead on at 20,25,30 yards, anywhere... (no change)
125 grain Slick Tricks --- dead on at 20,25,30 yards too (great broadhead!)

....and now the alarming surprise:
100 grain Magnus Stinger 4 blade ---- flew high consistently 20,25,30 yards!! At 30 yards, it almost flew over the Black Hole target! One shot hit about an inch from the top and penetrated out the back top edge! WTF....[:@](well, I know I have to aim at the top of the Black Hole, because the bullseye is all shot out, but still... Daaaaay-um!!!!)

....andeven a more alarming thing:
125 grain NAP Thunderheads. I have put these aside after the Slick Tricks and Magnus Stingers, because the TH's always, always, - for some God knows reason -always flew low no matter what. Well, guess what... They flew dead on accurate where I aimed at 20 yards and 25 yards (I didn't take a 30 yard shot because I was getting a little annoyed at myself and the 100gr Magnus Stinger issue.)

I wonder if, when the bowshop installed the new string leeches and when they had it in the press, if they adjusted my tiller or nock point or something, while I wasn't looking. (I did step away and drool over a brand new Hoyt Ultra-mag while they had my bow in the press). Anyway, my old bow shoots the same, feels the same, is a heck of a lot more quieter and balanced.

I just can't believe all of this.... I am totally confused and befuddled over the whole broadhead weight and bow setup charts and FOC and everything.... [&o][>:]

I am going to order some 125 grain Magnus Stinger 4 blades and try them, since the 100 grain now consistenly are flying high. I even got so irritated by it all, that I used the exact same arrow and with a field tip, a 125gr Slick Trick, a 100gr Stinger, and a 125gr Thunderhead, all the exact same distance too. All the 125gr heads flew dead on. The 100gr head flew high consistenly.

Aaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!! Anyone want some 100gr Magnus Stinger 4 blade heads?

Now if you could just reverse engineer it...figuring out how to get 100 grain and 125 grain broadheads to hit the same point of impact for most bows would be some kind of accomplishment...don't you think? :)

I'm not sure why it wasn't happening before, but your current results are just about what I would expect when shooting 125g. field pts. and 100 gr. broadheads. 100 gr. field points should shoot higher too. Sounds like your nock pt. may have moved down, or your rest is higher for some reason. BUT, if the 125 gr. Tricks and T-heads are both shooting right with your 125 field pts. out to 30 yds. and beyond, there are quite a few guys who would like to have that problem.;)

OK. I am like totally confused.....guess I missed a couple of posts somewhere, but it seems to me that an arrow 25 grains lighter that the rest will fly high.....again, I think I missed something.
If your serious about the Stingers.....I'm your Huckleberry.....if not.....my new name is gullible......[8D]

{for those who don't know, DK and I have sent a few PM's and he is now the proud owner of my 100gr Magnus Stinger 4 blades. I just ordered some proper 125gr Stingers, which is what I should have done from the start!}

Butch...don't be so frustrated. It sounds like your setup is probably tuned better now than it was. It musthave been a tad out before, causing the bh's to fly closer together. Get the 125 stingers and go whack a big one! :)

Oh and I must say...I have the exact same bow laying in my basement right now. LH even[8D]It's my bro-in-laws old bow. I also have an old PSE I keep as a backup. 1995 Inferno. It's actually a very nice bow...fast and accurate, though it doesn't see much use anymore.

Thanks WV.... I just felt like a fool that's all(using 100gr when I should have been using 125gr). All I know is that my bow is now more accurate and more quiet and balanced that I have ever had it.

As it stands right now, those 125gr Slick Tricks are an awesome head and so unbelievably accurate, I will be using them as a main broadhead. When the 125gr Stingers come in, they too be shot, tested, experimented with, etc... and will also be a main broadhead alongside the Slick Tricks. (a little best-of-both-worlds kind of concept). The NAP Thunderheads will then be delegated as a backup.

I wouldn't expect those heads to hit the same place........You are changing FOC, spine and total arrow weight pretty significantly. In other words you have changed the tune of your set-up when you go to 100gr heads.
Did you try a 100gr field point to see if it hits consistently with your 100gr Stingers?
If THEY hit together but seperate from the 125's your "problem" is no problem at all.........just a change in arrow to bow tune.

Using your 2315 and a few guesses about your bow as the example with say at 29" total shaft length a 100gr head is listed as a possible choice but as being hard or stiff spine wise....... if you are shooting vanes Vs. feathers it will magnify the stiffness.

When you plug a 125gr head into the equation it pops up a 2315 as "Popular" choice and a medium spine.

You can't realistically compare the 2 or expect them to hit the same place on your target.
Like I said though, if 100gr field points hit away from your 100gr stingers then you do have some sort of issue, minor or major.
