Bow string and accuracy
 

How much doe's a bow string affect accuracy??? I bought a Reflex Grizzly in January and it has shot great. Until recently??? I seem to be all over the map???
This bow has the original manufacturers string. How good could it be and should I upgrade. I'll guess I've put about 700 shots through it since Jan.
For info.....I shoot this bow with:
NAP q-tune 1000 w/flip up holder.
Easton axis400 with 100grn. field points.
Loop and release.
Copper John Dead Nuts

glob3006 - I bought my Buckskin about the same time and have had about the same experience as you; shot great in the beginning, but started going all over the place recently. Thought is was just operator error until my daughter took a picture of me at full draw last weekend. As I looked at the picture, I noticed the bottom cam wasn't rotated as far as the top. Took the bow into a shop last night and they had to put six twists in the cable to get it back in sync; that's a lot of stretch. When I got home and shot the bow, it was like finding an old friend. Although everything should be good for awhile, I don't want to have this happen again so I went ahead and order new cables and string (Winner's Choice) before I left the shop.

If the string & cables are the right length and have enough twists to them, then there won't be a noticable affect onaccruacy.

However, some string materials creep significantly in the first few hundred shots. Creep is when the string stretches and doesn't return to it's original length.

From your discription, your strings and cables have creeped enough to throw your bow out of tune. Re-tuning your bow should get you back to where you were if string creep is the problem.It's just a matter of a few twists on the strings and cables, then re-tune to the new specifications.

Be sure to measure everything - ATA, brace height, etc so you can check in the future to seeif anything changes. If you know exactly what changed, it's a lot easier todiagnose & fix it.

One thing you should invest in is a portable bow press. You can get them for around 50 bucks and then you can do string maintenance yourself and not have to deal with the delay of always going to the proshop.

I totally agree with TerryM on this!!!

If your bow is a split limb model you will also need a bracket for the bowmaster.

I think one of the best upgrade's one can make for thier bow is to put custom string's and cable's on them such as the Grizzly .The Grizzley is a good bow but the string and cable quality isn't the best from what I've seen .I'd put new string's and cable's on them and use your old one's for a backup.

I have been wanting to get a bow press and do the work myself (As with my rifles) But I'vegot to be honest......I have only be shooting a bow since January and I have NO clue!!!! I don't want to mess anything up b-4 hunting season!!!!! But I will get one and look into it after Sept. In the meantime I'm a slave to the shop.
By the way I decided to calculate apprx. how many shots I really had through this bow since Jan. and it's more like 1,900 small difference huh!!

Take it to Boyd at Archery In The Wild in Longmont and have him tune it up. It is a great shop, and he was very knowledgeable and personable.

Don't worry about that. If you totally mess it up ( not likely) you can always take it to a shop and have them set it back to spec. I had a grizzly and I highly recommend a set of quality strings and cables. Give Gibblet a PM he can set you up with good stuff at great prices.
