Spott Hogg Hogg-it users

As we all know this is the best fixed pin sight out there at the present time.

But there is only one draw back to them and that is the pins are not very bright specially if you are like me and like the .019 pins.

I found this place on the web that has fiber optic at a good price.

http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/da...uorescentfiber

$1.95 for 3 feet so I got 3 feet of red, green and yellow in the .5mm .02" it fit perfectly into my .019 pins;)

I then got a clear pick up tube from a spray bottle ( best to make sure the bottle is empty before you take the tube;) ) or the little lady is going to be royally upset:D

I attached the clear tube to the extension bar of my Hogg-It with 2 small zip ties after I cut the tube in 1/2 so I can do my other Hogg-It;)

I then went about taking the old fiber s out of the sight and replacing them with the new fiber cut to 6".

The result is one very bright Hogg-It even when I shoot indoors:);):D

Total cost involved $7.35 to do both my sights:)

Here is a pic of the finished job.

Aussie,
It's nice isn't it? I did the same thing with both of my SH sights. I work for a bio-tech company, and they have tubing almost the exact dia. as the fiber optic from a machine called an HPLC. My friend hooked me up with enough to do both sights and have some extra.

Try some black zip ties to blend in better for hunting.

Enjoy

This looks like it would work pretty well, however I went and bought the light kit on their site and for $15 or so it works awesome and illuminates the sight level as well.

Rick.

I have the light as well but you can't use the light with the lens adaper/sun shade and lens.

My hunting sight has the light on it for shooting hogs at night;)

Thanks for sharing that, Ausie. I saw someone on AT had done the same thing, so I have had this in mind for a while. Is it hard to replace the fiber optic? I had problems breaking the standard replacable ones from spot-hogg. I picked up 9' of .019" off ebay for $6.99 shipped. Not quite as good a deal as you got, but it will work.

I just bought a Spot Hogg and contemplated getting the .019 pins when I bought it. But, I use my sight for hunting and 3D. Neither of which I find the larger .029 pins a problem. The bigger pins are brighter and tougher. Perfect for hunting.

That's a neat idea though. I saw that somewhere else. My only concern would be the loose fibers catching on something.

Pretty nice Russel. I just picked one up and once I get the turret issues figured out I'll be giving that a try.
Thanks

Kelly.

Yeah I seen your post over on AT.

I think all you will need is the 2 and 4 turret as they are slightly smaller than the other 3;)

I did have to buy 2 complete pins for one of my Hogg-It's they cost $10 each.
But thats what happens when your wife decides to clean up the archery room[:@]

Kelly.

Sounds like some one really screwed up that sight:)

I have been thinking on getting that 7 pin head as well.

Seeing I am looking into doing more field events those 7 pins will come in handy;)

Still the best sight out there. I use th 029 pins and have had zero issues with them in low light conditions. Very nice inovative idea that works with just about all the pins out there.

The pin configurations shown are similar to what I did to mind; however, my pins don't have to be tie-wrapped and I designed a shield that protects the pins 100% of the time. Without protecting the longer fiber, especially at the head with .019 pins, breakage during hunting in very probable.

Hey Len,
Any chance you could post a pic of that set up?

Looks good, I'm just concerned about getting the extended fibers caught in brush.
Aussie how about posting a picture holding the bow and focusing on the pins, without using the 'flash' on your camera so we can see what the pins look like--?

Kanga 06-06-2005 10:34 AM

RE: Spott Hogg Hogg-it users

ampahunter.

Here ya go taken inside with no flash.

RE: Spott Hogg Hogg-it users

WOW!! Thanks a bunch--that "IS" worth doing--obviously they'll be no need for the sight light.
Now I've got to order me the fiber optics.

Dittos on the WOW! mine aren't that bright even in daylight. HMMMM maybe you just started something here. Thanks for sharing.

I just ordered 3' of each color. Will try this next week to see how this works. Hopefully it isn't too bright, as I hate it when it gets that haze around the pin from being too bright.

Rick James 06-21-2005 06:15 AM

RE: Spott Hogg Hogg-it users

I got my fiber strands yesterday. I threaded them up and WOW what a difference. They aren't too bright either like when you have the sight light on them, no glare really. I trimmed the tube so it ran along the top of the sight extension bar to the mounting bracket, and it looks pretty damn good.

Only thing I would say is don't get the Violet color fiber, it's pretty much worthless. The green, orange, red, and yellow are all pretty bright though. I will post pics tonight.
