e-mail notifications

is there a way to receive e-mail notification of subscribed threads?

CalHunter 06-02-2019 10:55 AM

When you open up a thread (topic), you will see a drop down menu at the top right hand corner of the thread, titled "Thread Tools."
1. Left click on that to drop the menu down.
2. The 3rd choice down is "Subscribe to the Thread."
3. Left click on that choice.
4. Above the "Add subscription" link at the bottom of that page, you will see a "Notification Type" drop down menu. If you left click on the down arrow, you will see your email subscription choices.
5. Choose the email subscription that works best for you (I think there's instant, daily or weekly) and then left click the "Add Subscription" link at the bottom of the page.
6. Enjoy your email notices.

Thanks for the " how to " suggestion and I've been through all of those steps, including " instant e-mail notification ", without success. Also replies to threads I've started do not notify by e-mail. Bout ready to throw in the towel.

...are you sure your email address here is the email address you think it is?

After you check your email address on record, feel free to use the "Test Posts" forum to create a test thread and test the "instant notification"feature, etc.

No, I'm not sure of that and where would I find that information? I grew up with a phone on the wall that was housed in an Oak case. Our number was 2-5 1-F3. That was 2 shorts, 1 long and 1 short and we mailed a letter by placing pennies in a pint fruit jar in the mail box.. Don't know much about computers, e-mails and stuff like that.

Is there anything else I should do to receive e-mail notifications.

Your account looks to be set up correctly. Make sure the email address you have on file here is the one you're looking at for your notifications. Also, some email hosts block HN emails, so if it still doesn't work, you may need to make a new gmail account and change your HN email to that.

And of course, you won't get email notifications until there is at least 1 new post in your subscribed threads.
