I see what you're saying. This is the newest member that just signed up. You don't even want to check the signature line. It's for some dating website and a gambling website. I believe Ibobi mentioned something about captcha to block spammers and other tools to prevent spammers from posting when they first join. They obviously don't have any tools that examine signature lines.

I have inquired with my tech team about the signature spam (FYI this is a constant issue on all forums, not just HN -- the good part is, if you don't go looking at random accounts' signatures that are not even posting, you won't see it at all!).
There may be a way to require members to have a certain post count in order to have a signature. I'll ask them. It may take a while to implement if we can do it at all. And it won't eliminate the existing ones, just prevent new ones.
The only other way to eliminate signature spam is to eliminate signatures. For everyone. And for obvious reasons, we would rather the real members be allowed to keep their real signatures, than ban all signatures just so people who specifically go looking for bad sigs won't see them when they do.
My very sincere advice is, don't go looking at random accounts, looking for sig spam, and you won't see it. Until and unless one of those accounts actually posts something, the only way to see their signature is to go hunting for it. So just, don't. Other than that, it has zero effect on the site, and is very difficult to detect or eradicate.
Thanks all

If I understand your last post correctly, it's something like see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. All of these new members who have no posts and are private messaging other members. That should be ignored, correct?

BUT if you really want to, you can always use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page, or PM a moderator or admin with the username and we'll look into it.

It used to be if we contacted a mod, the post was deleted and the poster banned. Anyone can look at the screen name of the spammers and see that they are not hunters or fishermen but spammers especially if they are from India or Pakistan or the Baltic countries. Why is it that Cal could tell the difference between a spammer and a legitimate poster and no one else can? Why is it that good mods have quit? Something is rotten in Denmark, and it is not the cheese.

It is 6:12 AM and listed below are the 34 members who are on line and what they are doing. I ask you IBOBI why are they here and what are they doing? Ordinarily at this time of day there are only 3 or 4 members up on the site. Something has changed and I am not confident that it is a good change. They are here for a reason and all we get is ...everything is good. I hope this situation ends but in the mean time I'll be signing off and staying away because I don't have the confidence that those people aren't here for a nefarious reason. They aren't selling anything, aren't posting to connect with other members, obviously looking at other profiles and private messaging.... so why are they here? One possibility I can think of puts my cyber security at risk. It has been fun but something isn't right here anymore.

It is odd that new members would sign up with similar names (especially the #'s) and not make any posts but instantly start private messaging. Obviously members can't see who they are private messaging but Admin should be able to do that.

If you'll see above, I have a tech ticket in place that should cull a lot of the spambots' signatures -- even the non problematic ones. We'll have to wait for tech to get to it.
Again, thank you for your concern, but the "PMs" appears to be a nonissue.

I think what most of us don't understand....
And yes, as mods we've had this discussion multiple times with admin over the past year or more....
Why are all the spammers signing up? They have to be generating revenue somewhere... Either for themselves, or for HNI. Someone is making money off these spammers somehow . Otherwise they wouldn't exist. Nobody is creating these accounts for free . Nobody is creating programs to create these fake accounts for free. Someone is getting paid somewhere due to these accounts.
Which leads us to the issue, at least as I see it.... Is this a hunting website or a spam spot to generate revenue for somebody? And it's further complicated by the fact that many of these names have sexual content attached to it. Including links to probable por**ographic material as well as esKorrt services etc.
CI and myself, as well as other mods, have previously discussed the moral aspect of continuing to serve and support a site that is hosting or allowing these types of profiles. Because to be honest, it bothers me. Especially when we searched for and deleted hundreds of profiles, spent hours of time, only to be told that it's "not a problem as long as they don't post on the actual forum" even though some of these profiles had hundreds of page visits.
Now, to admins credit.... They've deleted accounts that we have brought to their attention . I have a thread on the mod forum with over 200 posts full of spammer accounts that we had admin permanently delete . Ibobi has deleted hundreds of accounts for us through this thread .
I guess I don't understand why a site with such low traffic, shows a membership of over 230,000 members. And why some of these spam members, who never post, still have many views on their profile . Who is viewing their profile and how are they getting to it? And what is HNI getting out of #1 all these members #2 all these profile views etc.
