Private message character limit messed up

I'm trying to write PM's to someone and a popup keeps coming up saying "4900 character limit." The thing is.. my message is like only 200-300 characters. Any clues mods?

Are you sure that's all the characters. This includes spaces etc..I assume. Other than that, the site IT people will need contact via the link at the bottom of the pages.
